Never Gets Boring

Geez, I was in London for the past two days for auditions for the NYT and a Law course at Norton Rose, and I thought one evening "What shall I do?" So I went to see Les Miserables again, for the 8th time: 3 Broadway, 5 West End. It still send shivers down my spine when listening to it. The production was excellent.

However, John Owen-Jones must have been ill, as his understudy was playing it (don't know his name). Fantine was very good, though somewhat disappointing. Eponine was absolutely fantastic. Cornell John, as Javert, was much better this time than last couple of times I saw him. Although, he still cannot get get that bottom note in The Confrontation. Barry James, well, he was funny, but, you know, just a bit weak. Marius with Enjolras were superb.

All in all, it was one of the best Les Mis productions I've seen on the West End. Though I'd have loved to have seen John Owe-Jones again. It's the only musical that I can come out of and say: "every single song in that was a work of genius".

That's how I feel when I go too. I must go again soon. I've not been since the 20th Birthday.

I don't think that this is the best cast to grace Les Miserables...

I went like a few days ago and i didn't see John Owen Jones either, i saw Nik Page.

I loved Shonagh Daly (eponine) and also Cornell John (Javert). The whole cast was great.

I agree...
Good, but not great.

Man....I can't imagine what it'd be like to live in a place where it was always playing, where it'd be as easy to go see it as going to see a movie. Big shows like Les Mis and Phantom only come through here about once ever 4 or 5 years. Luckily, Les Mis is making a tour return to Denver this spring, right on my 18th birthday. But it's always such a big deal for me to get to go see shows, hehe. I felt so priviledged when I got to see Phantom twice last November. I should move to New York. Laughing

Just jogged my memory - it was Nik Page.

What are the chances of both Valjeans being ill? Would they ever put Nik Page in the role if JOJ is ill simply because Nik would hardly act in it. Or do you think that both would be ill?

Because surely if you're second understudy, there's a chance that you'd only get a couple of nights, or none for that matter...
