Non cast members singing Les MisI thought this might be interesting to discuss, listening to non-cast members (i.e. people who've never played the role) singing their version of a song and deciding how well they'd play that role professionally.First off, Michael Ball singing IDAD. Could he play the role? Er . . no. He makes a much nicer Marius than a Fantine. Plus I don't really like how "pop-ish" he sang it, IMHO. Second we have Colm Wilkinson singing ECAET. Could he play the role? Well . . . not now-a-days , but maybe when he looked like this: I am an un-abashed fan of Colm's and the only thing I can say I dislike about this version is he sounds to old for Marius. Thirdly we have Lesley Garrett singing IDAD. Could she play the role? Sure! She's a great singer/actress, and she could definitely handle the role. Fourthly we have Michael Crawford singing BHH. Could he play the role? Yup! I'd pay to see him any day. And last but not least we have Neil Patrick Harris and Jason Segel of "How I Met Your Mother" singing "Confrontation". Could they play the roles? Actually, yes. They certainly aren't the best singers, but Jason Segel looks a lot like I'd imagine Valjean. Anyway those were all the ones I could find . . . feel free to add some you've found. God bless, ~Robin Hood |

Re: Non cast members singing Les Mis
Well, he'd be better than Daphne Rubin-Vega. |

Hello
I actually like Michael Ball's version of IDAD far more than Lesley's one. That Confrontation was very funny . Never thought that this song has a comedy potential . |

Re: Non cast members singing Les Mis
Actually, I'd have to disagree . . . Daphne Rubin-Vega has a few (key word, few ) thing over MB, which would make me rather see her has Fantine. One, she's a female, I don't know about you but I've always thought Fantine is best when played by a female. Two, she's not fat like MB. *smacks forehead* How could I forget Mandy Patinkin! . . . . I saw this clip on Youtube awhile ago, and it was what started me thinking about all this. Silly me. I liked those MP clips, thanks! God bless, ~Ruth P.S. I've now heard two guys sing a girls song, has a girl ever sang one of the guys songs, like ECAET? That would be interesting to hear. |

The Very Angry Woman |
He was in this great show called "Google: the Musical!" a few months back. |

You know, I don't know how exactly I forgot about Anthony Warlow. But anyway:

This man NEEDS to do the show again; whether it be Valjean or Javert. |

Here are a few more:
Enda Markey singing IDAD. So I have no idea who this guy is, but needless to say, he should never play Fantine. Eww Lalo Ibarra singing IDAD. What is it with guys singing this song? lol . . Well, at least this one can sing . . . . Evan Laffer singing OLC!Little People. This is interesting . . . first time I've seen this song performed ever. He has a little trouble on his high notes, but overall he was great! A quick question . . . . I remember seeing a clip on YouTube of (no joke) Rosie O'Donell singing the part of Mme. Thenardier in ODM, for a concert on some kind of cruise. I've been looking and looking and can't find it now, if anyone can put up the link I'd be very greatful. Thanks! God bless, ~Robin Hood |

With the rainbow flag waving in the background? I remember that one. Can't find it either though.

Not sure about a flag, but I do remember that some girl sang OMO before ODM, and it was at night. Would love to see that clip too.

I remember seeing that! I'll have a look on youtube! Did it have Norm Lewis in it as Enjolras, I think?
The Very Angry Woman |
It was Rosie's family cruise ("R Family Vacations"), which is a LGBT-friendly cruise. They did a special on it on HBO. Norm Lewis, Jose Llana, and Julia Murney have all sung on Rosie's cruises. |

Yes TVAW, that's what I saw .. . . wish I could find it again.
OK, this is quite . . . interesting, Katie Holmes singing On My Own. I actually enjoyed it, she smiled a lot during the song, which to me kindof fits Eponine's character, i.e. a bit insane . . . trying to fool herself into thinking what she feels is true love and just all around feeling sorry for herself. Also her voice sounds like a child, and a bit whiny too. IMHO, a perfect Eponine. God bless, ~Robin Hood |

Trevor |
I think she would make a GREAT little cosette.
LesMisIsLove |
I LOVED Michael Ball's rendition of IDAD. I would fly to New York to see him dress up as a woman and sing it on Broadway.
Robin Hood |
Thought y'all might enjoy this: Bryn Terfel singing Stars
Bryn Terfel is a very famous Opera singer, and he kind of adds that Opera "touch" to the song. Very enjoyable. |

I know he's played Tobias on the Sweeney Todd 2001 Concert DVD. He was pretty good on it. |
