Silly reasons for wanting to be in Les Mis!

So, I was kind of bored at work this evening and got thinking about really random/stupid things! And one of them was; for what silly reason would you want to be in Les Mis?

So not "it's my dream to be in it" or "I really relate to the characters".
More; "because jumping around the barricade would be fun" or "I want to creep out the people sitting in the front row in At the End of the Day".

So you get my drift, just a bit of fun!
Jaym

How about: because the puppets they use for dead people when Gavroche dies suck? I think I'd be able to play that part. If I managed not to be frightened at every gunshot.
Catherine

I'd want to be in Les Mis so I could dangle, dead on the barricade. And make over-exagerrated gestures in the Runaway Cart sequence.

I think I got used to the gunshots around my twentieth time seeing the show.

I want to be in the show because dammit, someone has to play Bahorel.

ROFL.

I want to be in Les Mis so I can fake a High C during the climactic ending of "One Day More!"
MlleTholomys

I want to be in Les Miz, so I would have a reason to lust over Enjolras.
Yakko

Because I wanna die in a blaze of GLORY on the barricade!!!!
lovesinging

So I can be naturally clutzy when portraying a drunk in Master of the House!
lilmissbroadway

To unleash my inner whore in Lovely Ladies and wear the awesome corsets in that number. And the be melodramatic during Turning.

Ditto. That was my favorite scene when I did that show last summer... my red corset and black fish-net tights were HAWT. And did I mention that I had a red feather boa? Oh yeah thasright.

But my silly reason for wanting to do Les Mis is to be Factory Girl #5 because vicious girl fights are the best. Smile

Um, excuse me. That's MY ridiculous reason for wanting to be in Les Mis! I've long expressed on here how it's my DREAM to be a Lovely Lady. A disgusting, toothless, V.D. infested LL!!! Twisted Evil

One can dream, no? *Sigh*

and for bitchy catfights...

and tap-dancing Enjolrases Mr. Green
Eppie-Sue

I want to be the groping woman in "Look Down". The one on the bridge that totally molests Enjolras. Yes, I said that.

Well I guess the dumb reasons like:Being with your friends, Filling up a class ect. don't really count. Cause those would be dumb.

In the recent Les Miserables that I did for school one boy said that he just really wanted to play with a gun on stage.
eponine5

I would get such a kick out of repeating book dialogue during the crowd scenes.

And the costumes! Period clothes are sooo much nicer than modern day ones, even the rags.

And as for the gunshots - over 20 times and I still jump every time Embarassed
Fun fact that I didn't know until a month or so ago: The guns are all real and insanely heavy

And tap-dancing pimps . . .
kozafluitmusique

Because I just have a partial emotional attraction to the show ... and I didn't understand it when I first saw most of it, but now I am obsessed with it ... so.
miraclemile

Jumping round the barricade would be insanely fun. Although, when they showed people doing it on the tv they all got pretty tired and out of breath by the end... but that would keep me fit, so that's a reason!
lilgavroche

To prove that I was once a grubby street urchin in another life. XD

And just to feel that rush of rebellion, even though it's not real.

And to do a death scene.
Ulla Dance Again!

So I can play at least several different characters, including the crazy bag lady in "Look Down".

Every time I've seen the show or heard the cast recording, a part of me wants to be in it just so I could have that part and get to scream "I KNOW WHAT YOU GIVE, GIVE 'EM ALL THE POX, SPREAD AROUND YOUR POISON TIL THEY END UP IN A BOX!"
lesmisloony

I just need to say that my entire massive iTunes library has been on shuffle for a few hours, but as I was reading that post it was playing that exact line.

Eerie.

I'd love to play the nasty crone who keeps bugging Fantine about her hair. I always fancy that she is a former drug addicted whore. I'd play her all sketchy. I think it's the best tiny role in the show!!!

For those of you who had the privilege of seeing Les Mis when it was actually consistently good, anyone else remember when they used to have the crone run away holding the hair up high and cackling wildly? I believe it was there for only a couple of years; 94-96'. Could've been earlier but I know it was there in 94 and 95 since I actually saw it during a 3NT performance and have it recorded in a 95 Broadway boot.

I think it's neat, but I sometimes wonder what exactly they meant to get across with that. Was the crone supposed to run off with the hair and not pay Fantine for it? Or was it just to show what a loon that crone is? LOL.

In the play version I am doing, that whole exchange is offstage. So I shall cast you in that role. (In my highly demented mind)

^ Hehehe. Mr. Green

Btw, I don't know where to post this and I don't want to create a whole new thread for it, so I'll ask here...

I just uploaded this clip onto YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvMSbtRidV0

I need to know/need help with two things...who's the Foreman and Factory Girl? I know Fantine is Ms. Piro and Valjean Rutherford.

Is the video playback choppy? It looks choppy on my computer sometimes. Other times it's smooth. Just wanted to know as I hate uploading bad quality stuff. Thanks!

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I just uploaded another vid and it plays back choppy as well. I suspect it's just my computer being full to the brim (yes, I've nearly used up all 250+ gigs on my hard drive) or my internet connection sucking as usual. Just want to confirm that it's just on my computer.

I would love to be in Les Mis just to be Enjolras. Yes I am a girl. Yes it might not work real well, but I can dream can't I? I never get to be revolutionary. I'm not even sure if I get to be on the barricade in our school production, much less actually hold a gun. This probably has something to do with nearly skewering myself with a sword in my school's production of Aladdin. (I wasn't even a fencer. I was just trying to hang it up on the rack!)

Nice to meet you, pixiedust. (may I call you pixiedust?)

Ahh. I should probably get more sleep. I promise I'll stop being weird.
lottielou22

My silly reason for wanting to be in Les Miz is so that I can be the sole person who actually uses a French accent.
Alexia Dark

Hmm... getting to wear a long blond wig?
Lara

To, if in an ensemble role, pretend that I'm one of the many minor characters from the book.
Orestes Fasting

Heh, that could be fun. Beggar with a baby in Look Down is Magnon? One of the unnamed random men at the barricade is Mabeuf?

In a silly version of Les Mis you could have the Beggar Woman from Sweeney Todd wandering around in the background. In a very silly version she'd be singing "Alms, alms..." as a descant to Look Down.
keelycrazy

If this hasn't already been mentioned, you get to swear a lot (well talk about down below)

I haven't seen the show yet, but I'm seeing a student edition with my chorus next week. We've been listening to some of the songs and learning about the characters and stuff.
pixiedust

Yes!! Our school version doesn't have any swearing! It really takes something something away from it. That's how they talked. I'm pretty sure Bamatabois didn't call Fantine a "toothless witch". I'm sure he probably had a few stronger words.
Fantine

To die on stage...
pixiedust

To laugh when all the names are mispronounced by the director and everybody else not in french class.
mezzo_soprano

Its not my fault that I took spanish! It just left me unprepared to play Fantine.
eliasatsalome

because id love to stage-die on the barricade

OH OH OH and play Azelma. someone HAS to play her...
AzelmaCombeferre9430

Reasons to be a a nameless ensemble girl:
-To give me and all the emsemble girls Marie-Suzette names
-Play match-maker ('matchmaker, make me a match, find me a find, catch me a catch' okay I'm done with my fiddler moment) to the whole cast to create real life versions of my favorite pairings (The actors playing Enjolras and Grantaire are first)
-See the sideburns up close
-Flirt with the actor playing Combeferre

Reasons to be a barricade boy (even though I'm a girl)
-The awesome vests!
-To stare at the actor playing Combeferre and ocassionally Enjolras throuhgout the show
-Hear someone say "agog" and "aghast" up close

Reasons to be Eponine, Cosette, Gavroche, or Javert:
-AWESOME HATS!

i played Enjolras and I'm a girl. it was the time of my life.

my silly reason to want to be les miz...to be cosette and kiss marius, wear a big poofy wedding dress, and have an awesome curly wig Smile

reason to be eponine: amazing costume and world famous song!! and makeup!

in general: to be french and do a show with multiple flags. <---which was the BEST part of playing enjolras!!!

I take Spanish too...Les Mis has so made me regret that choice Crying or Very sad
neen

So I could sing the crazy bag lady's part in "Look Down" (Paris). It's pretty much my favorite part of the song.
beyondthebarricade

To be able to do the mini march in "One Day More".
flying_pigs

So I could be part of the on-stage madness that is Master of the House, and then join in with the card game that's usually going on on the far right!
AzelmaCombeferre9430

to drunkly wave a gaint communist looking red flag on a revolving stage. And then die.

Or be a whore. For once.

LOL Eppie-Sue! XD

I'd love to be in Les Miserables just so I could try that black, tarry stuff some of the actors put on their teeth to appear toothless.

sounds like a dream come true Razz
Eppie-Sue

Well, it sounds like fun. Of course you'd get the, whaddayacallit, Surprising And Terrible Look that would show you The Great Gulf, but at least you've got something to do. Or, you know, generally one of the women in Look Down. The one that gets the baby stolen by Claquesous? Classic.
PureDiamondLight

haha yes indeed :/ the opening of an abyss... and I would run offstage and hide Razz

oh, and my reason?

... to run onto the stage dressed as a lovely lady when the barricade revolves to reveal Enjolras lying dead ontop of his flag, and scream something along the lines of:

"Not my Enjy-baby! Nooooooooo!"

Totally inappropriate, and not in keeping with the book at all, but the idea makes me laugh Very Happy

lol Very Happy I would so pay to see that!
My reasons:
To do the march in One Day More
COSTUMES!! Also, I so badly want to sing Mme.T's "Thinks he's quite a lover but there's not much there" line. And I agree with anyone who said to be a Lovely Lady because the idea of being a singing prostitute is strangely appealing to me. OH!! And of course dying on the barricade would be awesome Very Happy Very Happy The revolving stage. lot more but I don't remember right now
ILoveJavert

A silly reason? There aren't any silly reasons to be in Les Mis Rolling Eyes
I must say, being Javert would be the reason to be in Les Mis. The ONLY thing I wouldn't like about being Javert would be that I couldn't be a whore in Lovely Ladies... unless I felt like doing a very very fast costume change...

Oh wait... there is a silly reason. My friend and I decided that we would be in a Les Mis show and we would smile during Turning and Look Down and screw up the show. Then we realized we'd probably both be bawling during Turning.
