Re: Nancy Sullivan's Cabaret
As I've said before, I'm very very tempted. But I'd want to make it a weekend and do the show on Saturday. Then I'd have to find someone to stay with. And I'm not sure I can afford to spend the weekend away. But... maybe? |

I want to go, I think, although I'm not really sure how to get to this place. It's a bit out of the way.

It's so Thaxton. Love it Well, keep me posted if anyone changes their mind! She was great at the Soho Sessions! |

I'm pretty sure I'll go. I'm going to a show that day but hopefully I'll be able to get there in time.

So, I've basically decided to go - but I called them today to try and book a ticket (I don't want to go up to London without knowing I've got a ticket), and they transferred me to three different people and then the call got disconnected. :-/
Guess I'll try calling again next week. Anyway, so I'll probably be there. |

Ok, looks like I'll be there

Just in case anyone who wasn't there anyway is interested at all, it was absolutely lovely. I think everyone really, really enjoyed that afternoon. Nancy was wonderful. I'm going to be honest, I'm not the biggest fan of her voice as Eponine at times, I love her and I enjoy her performance, but she's not TEH BEST EVA. However, she was really, really amazing at all the songs she picked to sing, it was great hearing her without mic and just accompanied by piano or guitar. You really couldn't NOT like her. My favourite bit might have been "Fix You", but that song just generally makes me tear up and I love it very much, so no surprise there.
Also, the supporting act, Jamie Anderson, was AMAZING. Very witty, very entertaining. As for Les Mis people, yeah, Mark (Dugdale), Alistair and Rebecca were there! : ) and David, obviously (q.v. "guitar"). |

She really was amazing - she did a really interesting mix of songs and just sounded so beautiful and she's so sweet and cheerful! I left smiling and singing "Rain of my Parade" to myself and the poor citizens of Highgate on the way home |

Yeah, that was an awesome afternoon!
First of all, for those of you who don't know it or who got there last minute - the park surrounding Lauderdale House is totally worth a visit. It was gorgeous to walk through even on a gloomy day like today, but I can only imagine it would be stunning on a sunny spring day. Anyway, show was absolutely great. Nancy was incredible. She picked great songs from quite a large selection of genres and I thought she just sang them beautifully. It was indeed lovely to hear her without a mic. And Jamie Anderson was also great, although I admit that I do hate "short people ain't got no reason".... (and no, that would have absolutely nothing to do with my height....nothing at all... really) |

I agree with the others - it was a lovely afternoon. Nancy sang really well and was utterly adorable. Especially when she kept thanking everyone for applauding her! And Jamie Anderson was also very good and very funny.
I'm very glad I decided to go, it was definitely worth it. |

Aaaw, does anyone know what the song from the Jack the Ripper musical is called?! I couldn't find anything about it, and I quite loved it... Her set, apart from that was...
Mercy (Duffy) People (Barbra Streisand/Funny Girl) ... song from Jack the Ripper musical... The Man That Got Away (Judy Garland) I Want You Back (Jackson 5, KT Tunstall version) Climbing Uphill (The Last Five Years) Love Ain't Here Anymore (Take That/Never Forget) When I Look At You (The Scarlet Pimpernel) Don't Rain On My Parade (Barbra Streisand/Funny Girl) My Man (Barbra Streisand) Fix You (Coldplay) I Could Go On Singing (Judy Garland) whee. |
||||

Don't know what it's called (I also really liked it!)
but here's the list of all the musical numbers from that musical: http://www.jacktherippermusical.com/amusic.htm none of them rings a bell, but maybe if you can find audio on them on youtube or something you'll figure out which one it was (I'd do it myself, but I'm the library and can't listen to audio right now ). Or, you know, just ask Nancy next time you see her. I'm sure she'll be touched. |
||||
Eppie-Sue |
Ah, I'll definitely do that... I've already entered the lyrics that stuck with me and everything in Google, no results... those songs on that website also don't seem to go with what it was about. I'll ask her. |

Damn, the Jack The Ripper one was my favourite! Hmmm. Shall have to look into finding that.
T'was a lovely afternoon. I enjoyed it very much. |

Well, apparently it's called "Half a Dozen Pints" and Nancy sang it for her audition for "I'd do anything" according to this http://forum.unrealitytv.co.uk/id-do-anything/nancy-sullivan%27s-song/
I love that one too! ETA - If you watch the auditions clip that page links to, it starts with Katie Hall's audition!!! Not sure about her song choice - her voice is better than that cheesy number! How sweet is Nancy's reaction to her audition? Bless! <3 |
||||

Thanks! That seems to make sense!
Too bad the lyrics don't seem to be anywhere on google. |

Just thought people would want to know that Nancy's posted a recording of "Fix You" and of "I could go on singing" for download on her website:
http://www.nancysullivan.co.uk/media.html I'm pretty sure these were recorded during the cabaret (it sounds like it). |

...So.
According to Nancy's twitter, her next cabaret gig will be on 6 June. Should be interesting. But I know a lot of you will be in Paris for Barricade Day (if I'm right, my memory is a little sketchy as of now). Bwahaha can I silently gloat that I'm choosing to go to Paris sometime later, if at all. |
||||

You're welcome to gloat. But that depends entirely on your priorities. I suspect most people who will be in Paris at that time would rather be there than at Nancy's gig. Spending Barricade Day in Paris together with lots of other fans, which may well be a sort of once-in-a-lifetime experience, is probably more important to most people than seeing a gig by a decent Eponine. Of which she plans to do many more. |

I know, I know. But with hotels already booked with no refund policy and all, I'm saying it's hard to go to Paris just like that. Of course I'd much rather spend Barricade Day in Paris, but seeing that everything's being booked and all, I might as well make the most out of it in London. |
