EPIC! Awesome! I can find no other way to describe it. The only problem is that it is too short!

Finally! I've been checking the website all day long!
It IS EPIC!!! And LOVELY! It is so amazing! I love it! I can't even decide what I love most... Antony in ATEOTD, the shots of Nancy singing OMO, Alistair looks lovely.... everyone looks lovely! And I have to say that David's "the earth is FREE" posture, which I don't always love onstage, looks just incredible on film! Very powerful! Ok, going to see it again now. |

AMAZING!
So shiiiiiiny! 2:46 is awesome, love David's facial expression! ETA: Wish there was a bit of Earl and Katie singing though! Have you seen the pictures? Some of the captions are wrong, whoops! |
||
riverdawn |
Yeah, I love David's expression in 2:46 as well! So determined.
And yes, I also noticed the caption problems with the pictures. Silly, silly people. And, by the way, they seem to have also posted new tour dates/locations, if people are interested. |

OH MY GOD! I Love it! I love every single bit and the whole site is wonderful! I love what they did.
Alexia Dark |
I loved the bit with OMO playing while it showed scenes which give it context, but it would have been even better if it had been a little more trailer-like, giving the abridged story (and not showing dead student revolutionaries before stuff involving them alive).
Eponines_Hat |
Yes - interesting point. I am LOVING the close ups - but do feel like it was a touch chaotic. Would have loved if Nancy got the same close up treatment for OMO as Rebecca's Fantine. Can't help but wonder if this might be the "Boyle Effect"... btw seeing the new brochures, EPK, website - it's interesting to see a massive focus on Enjolras - like, bigger than any other male role. Could this mean that Cammack could be a bit of a fangirl, too???? |
||
flying_pigs |
I also love that they had Nancy slapping Thomas
riverdawn |
I suspect it's more that Cammack or someone in the marketing department has realized that: a) highlighting those aspects of the show that seem to be about drama and action (as opposed to: "it's something to do with sad children") might be helpful for drawing in audiences, especially new audiences who may not know exactly what the show is about. and b) having a good looking blond guy on the posters, brochures etc. is probably pretty good for business as well. I suspect - although I could be wrong - that the fact that the said good looking man is also one of the best singers and actors on that stage, probably had less to do with the decision. At any rate, whatever their motives, I am not complaining. |

Don't kill me but there is something about it that makes me not like it. Its well acted and sung but... i just dont like it. Doesnt seem very adverty and it sometimes seems like it has just been thrown together. Its very good, but not quite epic. Either that or Im just a bit harsh because its been a long day.

Would it have been too much to expect to have the current cast OK I know most of them are the current cast but you know what I mean - it's not like they don't have current photos they're in the brochure!!! Video great though - totally random thought, David Shannon isn't holding a gun in BHH - although is that just in the video? |
||
riverdawn |
It is quite silly, I agree, that it's not the current cast, especially in the photos (the video was shot before the mini-cast change).
As for not holding a gun - some Valjeans put the gun down before they start Bring Him Home or while singing it. Jonathan Williams certainly did yesterday. I know Bowman holds it throughout (which causes him to drop it to the crook of his arm at one point because of his hand gestures), but at least some other Valjeans (I don't have much experience, mind you) put it aside for the song.
Actually, Ricey, I sort of know what you mean. I'm really enjoying it, because I love the show and I love this cast and I'm having lots of fun watching them perform and seeing them on video in cinematic quality.... but, just from an advertising standpoint, I'm not sure it works that well. If I had never seen the show, I would have a hard time understanding what was going on, and the jumbled order doesn't help. So while, for my own personal consumption, I do love it and I do think it's epic - I think i can sort of understand where you're coming from. [/quote] |

IT' JUST SO AWESOME.
I was just laughing so hard when Antony did that sudden change of position with "as the waves crash on the sand". When Nancy sings, although, yes I do agree, she doesn't get much attention, my hair literally stood up. And I love how she keeps her voice well measured, instead of Eponine's who (as someone said before- can't remember who) use On My Own to show their voice off. Katie and Alistair! They go so well together. And at 1.18 when David and Martin crouch down on Alistair, is it just me or is DT's hair especially shiny?! The "is freeee" face, as well. Earl is just so imposing as Javert! I love how he climbs over the barricade after all the students died. Rebecca makes a bloody awesome Fantine too. "ONE MORE DAY BEFORE THE STORM", I literally jumped out of my seat. And he made the "Will you take your place with me!" face, which looks so good when he's (the whole cast, actually) given time to act, instead of just cutting the whole song and rushing it up in a certain TV special. I'm sorry if this is a little tipsy or whatever. Where are the downloads, though? |

That brought a tear to me eye.
God I love the original production. Overall a fantastic montage of scenes. I love, love, love the ridiculous amounts of theatrical smoke and the fact you can actually SEE the shuttered windows lit behind Nancy--something very rare. But why in God's name do the OMO, "Lovely Ladies," and ODM clips feature the inferior (albeit "beefed-up"), revised orchestration? Jesus Christ won't they just leave it the f*ck alone? What is it going to take to get them to realize it SUCKS--it sounds like a cheap movie score , it has an air of shallowness and insincerity. It's UNNECESSARY. Apart from that, it was beautiful, beautiful, BEAUUUUTIFUL!!! |

What a goooorgeous EPK!!!
The non-chronological editing doesn't bother me at all, to be honest. I'm a bit miffed there aren't any parts with Earl Carpenter singing, but otherwise I totally love it. |

I've just noticed that they have finally corrected the cast list. Well, almost. We no longer have Nik Page, Christopher Key, Samantha Mercer or Kilian Donely. But we do still have Comberfere and Courfreyac.
But the captions for the photos are still wrong. |
||
MlleTholomys |
Comberfere should now be considered part of the cast he's been up there so long. Six-seven months?

Alright, so, very random thoughts on the EPK:
Overall: I love it. I love that it's not advert-y, see, it's an "electronic press kit", it's not supposed to be shown in full length and all that, these snippets should serve as material for, say, TV programmes to show if Les Mis is mentioned or something like that. The last bit, from the "The time is now the day is here!" on, which they showed on ITV a few days before the website was updated, that is what they''d probably show as an advertisement. I don't like that they put the "Lovely Ladies" tour orchestration in there. Scratch that - I don't like that they put "Lovely Ladies" in there to begin with, ATEOTD (factory) or Look Down would have been more effective, I think. They only show the whores, the music sounds thin and it doesn't do anything for the representation of the musical. Meh. I f'ing love Shannon and Earl in this, though. How beautiful is the whole "BHH" sequence? Just the way they put it in, it works remarkably well. Um, yes. Lots and lots and lots of Thaxton. I still can't believe that includes the Final Battle hands. I love them here, though, although I might be totally biased. I love the ODM bit and I'm completely, utterly stunned that they put the moment between him and Grantaire in there because - O.O where did that come from?! I love the OMO bit a whole lot, I think it looks beautiful, it sounds beautiful. I adore the footage for IDAD, too, Katie looks amazing, the wedding sequence is wonderful... I think putting Nancy slapping Thomas in there is bloody hilarious... Oh, and the stunning amount of Antony!beggar? He so doesn't look poor, being all posh and stuff. Bless. And there isn't enough Earl in there, but I believe he'll get his fair share in the tour EPK. There also isn't enough with the students. Yes, they've got the barricades and all that, but basically there are just excessive amounts of David, but not of the others, which is a bit sad. Ah well. I just wish they had put DYHTPS in there, singing and smiling and running around and the cart and flag-whipping and waving at non-existent bystanders and all that. |
||
l'ivrogne transfigur |
Agreed. I love that they put Enjolras and Grantaire in there - it's clearly just as important as Marius and Cosette Also, isn't it typical that it's David who manages to have himself in the same frame twice? And in this context, Final Battle hands do kind of look like he's wailing in grief at the death of Antony and Martin... Also, love Earl's face as it fades when he's looking at Deadjolras. And Jeff's WTF at Mme T. And I really like the little AHFOL bit. And how excited David looks about revolution. And Shannon's BHH. There's a bit too much Laura Medforth - she seems to be fairly prominent in almost all the ensemble bits. Though I do like that it had her and George!drunk in MotH. And I'm so glad they didn't put in all those bits of text like they did in the Phantom one. |
||
riverdawn |
Yes, exactly this. I know it's not quite the emotion he's going for when he does that (particularly as by the time Antony and Martin die, he's all DeadJolraic himself) - but in the context of the EPK it looks exactly as though he is wailing in grief and it looks AMAZING, even if they did take the gesture somewhat out of context. |
||
mm10 |
They've changed the photos - we actually have photos of Simon Bowman now!!!!
riverdawn |
Well, good for them for actually changing the photos, instead of doing the somewhat easier thing and just correcting the captions. |
||
l'ivrogne transfigur |
And Comberfere is now Combeferre (but Courfreyac hasn't changed.)
Also, that photo of Thenardier in the sewers - it's not Marius on the ground at that point, although that's a minor quibble I guess. |
