On My OwnDoes anyone else hate On My Own and Eponine's character in general? It's just that everyone seems to want to play her and I just can't stand her...Thoughts, anyone? |

Hate? Nah. Some fans have been known to get annoying in their obsession, but it hasn't really been that big of a problem lately.
Everyone knows my feelings about the musical adaptation of the character and "On My Own," so I won't beat a dead horse. You might want to check out the FAQ sticky at the top of the forum though. |

I've asked around at my youth theatre and i'm really hoping for fantine, as nearly all the people i asked want to get Eponine in May at the auditions 
I used to be really obsessed with her, until i saw the show in london last year and i fell in love with fantine (not literally - obv  )
I think it's b.c. she's the "love-sick" heroine and that she dies a bloody death. I think that Fantine gets a better death tbh, but there you go

I agree! I just think Fantine is that much more self-posessed and personally I think I Dreamed A Dream is just a nicer song (it's also easier for me to sing! lol)

I've got nothing particularly against the Eponine of the musical, and I quite enjoy On My Own, but I just find Eponine far more interesting in the book.

hehe thank you! It's in May, but i've been preparing for about 3 years
needless to say, i'd love a good part, and i've made a mop hat, apron, skirt and blouse for fantine. I also have an Eppy coat and made a hat 
(most people who get leads in my group audition in costume lol) |

If you define good art as something which provokes discussion, On My Own is without doubt the best number in the show...

Sorry, I don't think I made that clear- I wasn't trying to Eppiebop (sp?) and when I originally made the thread I was new on MdN. I apologise for not expressing myself clearly in the first place; I didn't mean I actually hated Eponine's character, just that On My Own is normally a fast-forward moment for me and that, being relatively new to the show, I couldn't understand why everyone wanted to play her as opposed to Fantine, who I was always more attracted to as a character.
I do realise now that I should have searched first and seen how many 'eppibopping' threads there were but I wasn't aware of the etiquette, was enthusiastic and just wanted to see whether I was the only person who felt the way I did. My apologies and I know that I am in the wrong but please be a bit tolerant. |
