Played Fantine? Share your experience!

Hi all,

For my Fantine website I want to add a new section featuring people who have played her in High School editions.
If you played her and don't mind sharing your experiences (detailed) and preferrably some photo's of you as Fantine on my website, please respond to this topic.
mezzo_soprano

Would my play count? or just the musical?

AND I LOVE YOUR WEBSITE! It helped me sooooo much during auditions!
Fantine

Aww thank you Smile I didn't know anyone besides myself visited it, haha.

Information on your play and your role as Fantine in it would be awesome!
mezzo_soprano

YAY!

And yes, it is lovely. It was down the other day and I almost died.
Alexia Dark

I will most certainly share my experiences as rehearsals progress!

But the website seems to be undergoing some problems. Lots of Page Not Found stuff going on Sad.

Yeah, that's because I'm in the middle of moving. The site will be back up and running before the 20th of October at the latest, hopefully sooner.

W00t the site is back up and moved to my new domain:

I would love to hear your experiences now so I can add a new section to the website ^_^
Alexia Dark

Yay. So, as of Friday we will have blocked every scene I am in as Fantine, and I am already off-book.

What about our experiences do you want us to share? Like, specific questions?
Fantine

Just whatever you want to share Smile Your take on the role, how you felt about playing Fantine, funny stories, etc. You have a lot of freedom Wink
And photo's! I would love photo's Smile

How about a questionnaire? I like questionnaires.

LOL, every time I meet someone who has played J&H, I have a questionnaire for them. But that's for research purposes Laughing .
Fantine

Okay...

Your (nick)name?

When did you play Fantine?

What kind of production? (Regional, SE, etc.)

What kind of costume did you have, how did you (or the costume department) create it (including wigs)?

What did you like best about the part?

What did you like least about the part?

What was the best thing about your production in general?

If you could perform Les Misrables (and get cast as Fantine) again, what would you do differently?

Tonight is our final dress rehearsal, so soon I will have pictures and more stories!
Alexia Dark

Teehee... I won't be able to answer most of those questions for almost another month yet, but I am totally looking forward to it.
Fantine

Awesome! Looking forward to it Smile
Quique

Obviously, I've never played Fantine, hehe. But thought I'd share my favorite Fantine photograph...

Love it.

(It's Susan Gilmour when she was with the Canadian company).

Fantine Audition

You girlies who have played Fantine ,

I know this isn't the audition section, but I was wondering if you could help me with an upcoming audition ! (As it is for Les Miserables, role of Fantine !)

Does anyone have any audition monologue suggestions ? I think I may be using Fantine's monologue from the novel, but more suggestions would be appreciated .

I think I have my audition song ("Someone Else's Story" - Chess) OR I may be using "I Dreamed A Dream" . Opinions on which to use ?

Any other tips in general on "being" Fantine would be just lovely !

THANK YOU ! (:
Alexia Dark

I personally used a monologue from the Fame tv show... it is on musicaltheatreaudition.com (the one with the pregnant ballerina where she describes her dreams). It is a youth production, so the age and genre appropriateness were not really an issue. I sang "I'd Give My Life For You" from Miss Saigon, because, well... I cannot think of any song more Fantine than that song (and displays the right vocal-range, as well).

Thank you soooo much ! This is more help than I've gotten in my 2months of preparation, aha . (:

The Questionnaire

Your (nick)name?:

Stephanie.

When did you play Fantine?:

December 16-19th, 2009.

What kind of production? (Regional, SE, etc.):

School Edition

What kind of costume did you have, how did you (or the costume department) create it (including wigs)?:

Mine was actually custom made... the short wig I borrowed from another youth theatre company I've worked with, and the long one was bought last-minute at a costume store because the one the artistic director decided to buy sucked and looked like it belonged in the 70s (not to mention it plastered itself to my face and made it difficult to see).

What did you like best about the part?

Acting the death scene.

What did you like least about the part?

Skinned knees from being thrown down like 4 times in ten minutes (yes, I have done combat training, but *some* people just do not know how to help it be effective).

What was the best thing about your production in general?

The co-director, who unfortunately was not available the last month of rehearsal until tech *shifty eyes*. Oh, and the costumes.

If you could perform Les Misrables (and get cast as Fantine) again, what would you do differently?

I would try to be more in the moment during ATEOTD and the arrest.

I don't really feel like putting the production photos up... here's one of me backstage in costume:
