Recent HS Fall Production

Recently, my high school put on a production of LES MISERABLES: SE (se obviously lol) **cough**november9-11**cough** ((I was the makeup designer and wig selector; though, we had a limited supply of the wigs we had and some came out just plain weird lol))

Costumes were rented

Here are some pictures

^fave pic; it actually looks like a fricking building

Once I learn how to get screen captures I can get more pictures.

The most emotional part of the production was the fact we had no turn-stage; when you see the woman who lost friends push the barricade (with their "dead" friends on it) off stage, it is very symbolic and emotional.

This production can be seen at the FLORIDA STATE THESPIAN FESTIVAL ((one of two musicals chosen to go))
Timmy_Wishes he was Quast

No offence it looks like a truely greta production BUT Thenardier looks like a man in drag! LOL A man playing a woman who's playing a man Shocked Confused This might be his hair length however...

HAHAHAHAHHAHAHA ^

It's probably the wig; we hadn't had time to cut that practicular wig in time for rehearsals ... and so it had to stay like that. BUT by the actual performance we were able to gel it and get rid of the curls lol.
Jemibub

finally uploaded an audio clip

MASTER OF THE HOUSE

Copy and paste url; hope it works.

The production looks quite good. Good job! Your Valjean looks like he may actually be the strongest prisoner, unlike most Valjeans. That kid looks as strong as an ox!

I don't see any problem with the wig but that's just me.
jimbothecrab

Excellent job, I am very jealous though that your school got to do Les Mis, my school is doing You're A Good Man Charlie Brown. Fun production and I am Charlie but it doesn't compare to Les Mis at all.
Jemibub

the wig in question isn't that visible in any of these photos. Going to go into paint and circle it.

OKAY ... so I couldn't find the wig; it's under one of the red caps THANK GOD! lol

Our Marius was much taller than Valjean; so Valjean had to DRAG him through the sewers. Also, in the drama room, we had a tv wired for a live action feed from the right wing of the stage; high up and angled looking down. We got to see, in an emotional part of the music, Valjean crawling behind the barricade before he climbs over it. Rather funny.
Jemibub

I call this picture "SPOT THE FUNKY WIG(s)" Laughing

This practicular wig had to go through a lot of wig gel and spray; not to mention bobby pins. And yet, by the end of act 1 it's back to being fluffy.

We had a limited selection of wigs already on hand; we had to choose the ones that were use-able and to who they'd go to. We ordered the rest.

Please ignore the big black hat that stands out lol Laughing

Where is the Florida State Thespian Festival held? I would love to see your production! I'm always keeping my eye out for them.
Jemibub

Tampa; though, to attend you have to have participated in any of the various florida district festival Sad ...or... that's how it was last year.

I have a DVD of our production; and, I might be able to burn copies and send them to those who are interested (though, only able to burn twenty copies if I'm allowed)
kitty17794

Yea my friend just explained that to me...too bad! I would have loved to see it.
broadwaybelle22

The costumes look great, and I agree that your Valjean looks believable. Overall it looks and sounds like a great production!
Jemibub

Thanks; but, like I said the only reason it has great costumes is that they were professionaly rented.

The bishop before he got his marchmellow "dress" on:

^though he looks evil... evil bishop lol

Lazarus (Adam G)

Looks like a great production!

I can't tell if Enroljas is a masculian girl or a very effeminate boy. Confused
Jemibub

lol, the later ... We've just gone into rehearsals for going to States; and, two benefit preformances to raise money. Cleaning and styling the wigs used; high on hairspray O_O; ow head hurts...

Then that's not too far off from canon.

I was also very set on giving him a blonde wig. Laughing We tried one out; but, it didn't look right.
Jemibub

four new pics ... three from rehearsal

Jemibub, congrats on what looks like an awesome production. Whoever was in charge of sets/costumes should be given huge pat on the back- I think they're both fantastic. You guys must have had a blast.
Jemibub

Thanks, it WAS a lot of fun ... we had a costume crew to help stitch up busted seems and make alterations but the costumes we professionaly rented Smile

The set was really rather simple ... a large backdrop, stationary bridge, 2 platforms that changed into the barricade, 2 steps, tables and chairs, the gate, and a small mini-bridge that is pullied down than pullied up for javert's suicide. All built by the stagecraft class; though the backdrop was painted by volunteers during the set building day ... I did six of the windows lol.
mzredbox

wait... how did it work with the bridge going down? Confused
Jemibub

THAT was the only thing that was a little off ...

The main bridge was stationary; so, Javert had to walk off the bridge, onto a platform that get connected to each end of the bride, down a few steps, and onto the stage where a small railing was pullied down from the cieling. It was then pullied back up when he commited suicide. It was okay if you look at it as him being on a "bridge" with a bridge in the distance lol; but, other than that it was weird.

But, at Morisani Hall, where it'll be for the FLA-State-Thespian Festival in Tampa, I believe it is arranged to have the actual bridge on a fly-system (though, I might have heard wrong)
Aimee

I missed these before, sorry Jemibub. They do look really good. Well done. Very Happy

I hate the way the flash has spoiled some of the lighting and made it look BRIGHT!!! I'm sure the show looked even better than the photos. Smile
Jemibub

I do believe that the cameras that used a flash bulb were during rehearsal; the other pictures were taken from a video one of the cast members family illegally took Laughing

We were recently featured in the MIAMI HERALD ( magazine down here for those who don't know )

Aimee

Is Enjolras's hair real or a wig?
Jemibub

LOL! That hair is very real lol Laughing Very Happy
Jemibub

3 more photos ...

Evil wig of doom

Sadly, the candlestick came attached TO the holders so the bishop had to give the candles too...

One day more shot with the flag

Aimee

His hair is great, I love hair like that. I thought it was real, if not a very good wig.

That's really annoying. You rehearse and rehearse then stupid things like that happen and you can do sweet fa about it.
Jemibub

though, we got our revenge with the candles ... one performance they fell off the table as valjean died ... sure, that'd be valjean's dieing thought; his beloved candle stick holders falling to the floor. They broke, and we had to get new ones ... ones that can detach.

I think it's funny, that when everyone died, at the barricade, they died in slow motion; but, gravity took hold of their guns.
Aimee

and their.... Razz
Jemibub

Found a clip of our Les Mis show on youtube.

Apparently, they don't have the video of the performance; only the audio. So, basically, it's our valjean's school picture with the audio.

BRING HIM HOME

Second and Third clips are slide shows with audio
