ruthie henshall as fantine

been a while since i posted, but i was listening to the Dream Cast CD just now. Ruthie's version of I Dreamed a Dream is amazing, inspirational and probably one of the most passionate things I have ever heard.

Who's with me on this?

I was lucky enough to see Ruthie as Fantine when she was in the London cast and at the Dream cast concert and she is my favourite of all the Fantines I have seen. She has an amazing voice and sings I Dreamed a Dream so beautifully.

I love Ruthie but hate the way so many Fantines now 'do a Ruthie' if you get me, its like they have to copy her tone, her voice etc etc etc. It annoys me as they can't do it as weel and invariably end up sounding like a bad immitation. 'Use you own voice!!' is what I always want to shout at them. Wink

I'd like to hear a Fantine now who isn't all 'nasal'. I found Kerry Ellis very nasal and though I like her acting her voice would grate on my ear.

^ Same here. In fact, that video of Kerri Ellis someone posted recently, greatly irked me. She was basically Ruthie in the way she pronounced the words and in singing style.

The funny thing is, sooo many people do that. Both pro and non-pro. I don't know what it is about the human brain but we all tend to want to emulate. I even admit to having that problem myself, as most others do. However, I really try to fight against the inclination to mimic and try to develop my own style and own interpretation. Too bad I'm no performer, lol.

Oh I don't know, I'm sure you'd do a great Fantine dear.

I think Ruthie is an amazing Fantine. I do agree with you Aimee - loads of people try to sound like her now, and it's so obvious when they do!

I adore Ruthie. She's probably my favourite Fantine. I also agree with everyone on the copying! Mad

Ruthie's Fantine will always been my favourite. Her IDAD and CTM give me chills. I saw her perform IDAD on the Sound Of Musicals on the BBC a while back and even though she wasn't in costume and there was no set, she packed so much emotion into her performence it didn't matter. Her facial expressions made me want to cry and my mum was really impressed by her as well.

I also saw Ruthie live in Woman In White last September and she's really incredible. I got to meet her at the stage door afterwards and she was very nice. Smile

I watched her on "This Morning" a program on the tv here in the UK. And she said that Fantine was her favourite character she has ver played. And IDAD is her favourite song.

I borrowed the TAC recording from the library just the other day, but I already love her!

Ruthie is probably my favourite Fantine. Her performance on the TAC is spine chilling. And she puts so much emotion into her performance.

Although I've never seen a carbon copy Ruthie, I don't like the idea of it.

I cannot possibly tell you how jealous I am.

I agree with everyone, Ruthie is great Very Happy It's a shame that if there's a performer who succeeds, then that person is copied..I really like it when performers put their own little twist into things..I miean it's ok if someone bases and interpretation off someone else's but it shouldn't be the same..and it's really sad when people try to copy someone's voice..but Ruthie is a very good choice!..I saw Carmen Cusack in San Francisco..and I absolutely LOVED her as well...never seen Kerri Ellis? so I can't comment on that
