School Production of Les Mis?

Hey everyone! I'm new here... and my school has been thinking of doing Les Mis for our musical this year. I personally don't think its a good idea... Our school has about 200 total students and not many of them are musical-oriented. So how hard do you think this is to pull off?

and if you have suggestions for other musicals let me know. (In the past we did Children of Eden, Man of La Mancha, and Jesus Christ Superstar)

I dunno, but I think I read about this school idea a while back in a magazine called Search Feature monthly.

Well, it depends on how many people are interested, doesn't it? I can tell you right off the bat that you'll need nine principals--including three strong tenors and a soprano with a solid B flat/high C--between fifteen and twenty chorus members, and a very dedicated crew. The crew will have to deal with period costumes, a revolving barricade, a guy committing suicide by jumping off a bridge, fun shenanigans with Fantine's wig, and other assorted technical hurdles.

I don't know enough about your school to tell you whether it's a good idea. Only what you'll be tackling if you decide to do it.

I'd advise anyone to do Les Mis if they can you may not have the most brilliant production in the world but as long as you do the best production you can you can't lose. Doing Les Mis is an undescribably brilliant thing to do so do it if you can! Smile

Have fun.

Well...I've seen a few high school productions of Les Mis that haven't exactly been up to scratch. But if you have dedicated people putting thier hearts into it, I think you can pull it off...Like Aimme said, the most important thing is to have fun and do your best. Hope all goes well!
