Screaming in the show?

I was wondering if Eponine's scream in "Attack on Rue Plumet" is dubbed or if the actresses ever actually scream for real live on stage?

The same question goes for the screaming in "Look Down"...also, I've noticed that sometimes the screams in LD are more dramatic and loud depending on the cast you're listening to. Is there a reason for why they don't just keep the screams the same each performance? Also, why is there even screaming in LD to begin with? I guess it's just done to dramatize the hard life and suffering of the city people, maybe?

The screams are prerecorded, thus the actors and actresses do not actually scream on stage, otherwise Eponine's voice would be ruined! They might re-record the scream from cast to cast.

It's (it was?) usually live on the US tour.

In Manchester, Meredith Braun once screamed water because they played the wrong sound.

That is classic!!

When and why would they have pre-recorded the word water I wonder? [I assume its in one show or other.... any ideas?]

I think TVAW meant that they played the water sound effects that they usually play when Javert kills himself instead of the pre-recorded scream they use during "Attack On Rue Plumet." I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure that's what she meant, hehe.

Yep, that's it. It was in an interview with The Barricade. She said something like, "They meant to hit 'scream,' but instead hit 'stream.'"

Haha. I can picture it now - Eponine gargling. lol!!!

Eponine's scream on March 3rd (Broadway Revival) was very unconvincing.

My favorite Rue PLumett scream is Sutton Foster's. It's like a two scream deal.

I think it must have been live because there is a live reocrding, and then a video floating around, and the scream is different. THe audio recording is the
best one.

Here's the clip:

Megan McGinnis?

I'm almost certain it is always pre-recorded. It would strain the actress's voice too much right in the middle of the show. And why pre-record for Broadway and the West End, but not for the tours? It doesn't make any sense since they both have the sound equipment. I believe they pre-record when the Eponine changes because they tend to have different screams. The most pathetic scream I've heard was Melissa Lyon's. It sounded like a howl, and there's no way Valjean should have mistook a howl-scream for what Cosette's scream would be.

You should find a recording of Dina Lynne "WOOO!" Morishita. She sounded like she was on a roller coaster.

I first saw Melissa Lyons when she was an understudy, and her scream was remarkably different. It's the typical high-pitched, blood-curdling scream we're all used to. When she returned as a principal, it was completely different. I wonder if it was just too much of a strain on her 8 times a week, but didn't cause problems when she wasn't doing the part regularly.

I'd love for it to be more like the scream in the Phantom of the Opera OLC, you know the one I'm talking about. Heh heh.

Or for those of you saw Lestat, Allison Fischer did a nice job with her Claudia death scene scream.

And because I'm bored, I've added a clip: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=MDRPQLR6

And for the record the second half of her scream is pre-recorded, the first half isn't.
