Who is that girl?
One of my freinds says Eponine, the other says Cosette, to be perfectly honest I'm not 100% sure myself. Neutral
Mademoiselle Lanoire

Cosette, of course. It's a modified version of one of the original illustrations from the novel.
Sweeney Hyde

Cosette of course.

I think it's hilarious that so many people assume the logo is Eponine, as if she is the show's main character. Ugh! Please. Rolling Eyes

There is no main character. That's why is called the Miserables, not a miserable. Eponine is important.

Thanks, but that dosen't answer my question.
Cosette looks like she's wearing a big bonnet and eponine a hat thinger.
If you ask me, the little girl on the poster looks like Eponine 'cuz she has the hat.

What do you think?

Read the rest of the thread. Your question was answered several times. It's not Eponine.

Eponine is the one dressed nicely in the photo, not Cosette.
Aimee

My fault, I thought you'd know that Eponine wears the blue hat.
Madam Thenardier sing this to her:

"Eponine, come my dear, Eponine, let me see you
You look very well in that new little blue hat
There's some little girls who know how to behave
And they know what to wear
And I'm saying thank heaven for that."

The Young Eponine is basically a spoiled brat. She doesn't sing anything in the show she is just there to show up the degradation of Young Cosette and so that later in the show, it makes sense when she says:

"We were children together.
Look what's become of me."

Now
you can tell your friends.

All they have to know is Youngs Cosette is poor, Fantines daughter, later adopted by Valjean, she only dresses well after that. Young Epoinine is not wealthy but her parents own the inn where they all live and they treat her like a little princess giving her everything. They later lose their inn and end up begging/stealing on the streets in Paris.

All your friends need is a tiny bit of knowledge of the book to know it's Cosette. Plus all the other people in this thread said the same thing and explained where the ppicture came from and more. We can't all be wrong, it really shouldn't be confusing.

ooo ok! *face slap*

see, i'm not very familiar with the show (obviously Wink )
i've only seen pictures and such, and all the photos i've seen, eponine loooks like the poor one and cosette looks like the rich one.

thanks for giving me that explanation. =)
Aimee

You are very welcome.

The test is on Friday! I expect 10 out of 10.

There could be a lead role. But not really a lead character.

When I say this I mean: there is one person who sings the most, has the most lines, all the typical stuff. But lets just say that one role wasn't in the show. The show would still have a plot. Not about one persons life, but about the general life in France. ValJean is just the one person we follow to make the show more linear.
MsDivaKate

I kind of see what Christina's saying.

Take away a specific character and we could still follow the life of one of the other characters in the show. However removing a character would pretty much alter the plot line.
So while yes there are leading roles (Valjean etc etc), all the characters are pretty well entertwined and central to the plot.

Yes.
Mademoiselle Lanoire

Yes, all characters are equally important. That's how the musical does so well without a single mention of Gillenormand, of Favourite, of Azelma, of Toussaint, of Theodule, of... well, you get my point.

Lets not dredge up old wounds of those fans of the novel as well lol

No old wounds - quite the opposite. I was emphasizing that not all the characters are equally important and that there are characters that are indeed expendable.

Well in my original post I was referring to how many of the characters within the actual musical (not referring to those from the novel as well) are pretty much entertwined and key to the plot and removing one, such as Eponine or Gavroche, would alter the plot, though there would still be story to tell.

As to the novel, I was only mentioning that there are people out there, who enjoy the novel, and had wished certain characters, for me Azelma, had at least been mentioned/Gavroche being one of the Thernardiers children.
