Singing Les Miserables in auditions

If you're auditioning for a musical (other than Les Miserables) is it okay to sing Les Miserables songs? I can sing "In My Life" and "I Dreamed a Dream" really really well, and I'd love to show them off at an audition, but I'm not sure if Les Miserables would be too overdone. What do you think?

Les Miz has been overdone for 15 years. Don't do it.

If Les Mis isn't overdone in auditions, what is?

At least you're not asking whether it would be a good idea to sing On My Own.

it is overdone, but if you can really make it your own than i'd say go for it.[/i]

And by making it your own, that means choose something else.

There are plenty of other songs that are similar in style. Just don't use it or the casting team will think you're too lazy to find similar songs that aren't overdone.

Frankly, I find people who do songs that are overdone to be lazy...(not you, but people who don't take the time to ask this question, which you have wisely done)

If you don't do the research to find a song that isn't overdone, why would you do the research for your character? That is what I've heard from many a casting director.

And stop with this "making it your own" stuff...that's so American Idol...LOL! Wink

I didn't think "In My Life" was too overdone...maybe just wishful thinking! Very Happy I love the song! But I guess you're right.
