Ten Little Bullets

Hi, reading one of Vicam's links to 'Broadway World', I came across a mention of an "old Gavroche song" called Ten Little Bullets.

I shall quote:

Broadway World wrote:
It's "Ten Little Bullets," from 1984 or thereabouts.

Does anyone either remember this song? Can I please have people's opinions on this song. Also, if anyone has a recording of this song, I would love to hear it!

On a slight tangent; does anyone have a list of the full cuts and additions to this revival performance?
The Very Angry Woman

There is no official recording of Ten Little Bullets because it never made it past OLC rehearsals (if it even got that far). The only person who might remember it is James Fenton.

Whatever anyone might have now might not be the case tomorrow, the next day, or by opening night.

It's so sad that they've completely scrapped Little People! Although this new song does seem less juvenile and might help those of you who find Gavroche stupid and annoying change your mind... ahem.

Don't count on it.

And I think it's great they cut Little People. The tune sucked, and the lyrics hurt. (Sorry...)

Yes, but from what I have heard, Ten Little Bullets makes Gavroche sound darker than he actually is.
Orestes Fasting

Darker than he is? Well, book!Gavroche was quite enthralled with the idea of overthrowing the government, and he didn't choose to make potshots at Voltaire and Rousseau just for the sake of a rhyme. Whether "Ten Little Bullets" is excessively morbid would depend, I think, on how the actor sings it.

A few things. I haven't yet had the chance to read the book, so can not comment on it. However I'm sure you're correct. Secondly, I am going on other people's views and reviews of the song, and when some of them say that this song makes him seem darker than he is, I assume they mean it gives a very different perception of the child as observed in the musical, not the book. As I take it, there is some large discrepancies between the two. As I say, I think they mean it makes him look far 'darker' in the musical than it would had the song been omitted. I hope this clears it up.

They have the lyrics on Broadway World...look for it.

It's not that morbid, really...

Quote:
Ten little bullets in my hand
ten little snipers neat and clean--
one for the king of this great land
two for the aristocracy
three for the bishops and the clergymen
four for the prefects of police--

give me a chance, I'll take the lot of them--
ten little chances to be free
Close your eyes, I'll say when, count to ten.

It is slightly weird for a 10-year old (or around that) to be singing things like this... And it depends a lot on the way he sings it also.

Actually, the songs he sung in the book were kind of creepy too. But Ten Little Bullets is nothing when you think about how creepy and wierd real nursery rhymes are!
