the coughing...ok...i saw les mis on friday! it was good (although the cast was not as amazing as last year, although John Owen jones...legend!) but...the thing that really bugged me...all the mian characters that were going to die/ hit the bucket/ pop their cloggs, devloped a cough very suddenly a couple of scenes before they died. For fantine yes, i agree...as she dies of a chest infection or something...but Eponine...why on the earth did she suddenly start to cough after she had given the letter to JVJ prior to 'on my own' im sure she died by being shot...not from a cough...?
and javert coughed and spluttered in the sewers...
its not a huge thing...it just bugged me a little bit...
However...all in all...a really good show! dont get me wrong! i esp. loved fantine's death!! really moving! (i cried...)

Maybe something was just stuck in Eppie's throat and she had to get it out before singing her big hit number?

You could look at that Eponine is a poor street rat, and was maybe sick?
Hehe, I didn't notice it when I saw her.

I choke when I cry, maybe it's something to do with that?

I'll bet there's a cold going round. There isn't normally a noticable amount of coughing [apart from, as you say Fantine].

They didn't seem to do that when I saw it on Wednesday, if they did I didn't notice. There was a lot of coughing in the audience, though.

you may be right...lol...it was just something that i picked up on time and time again!

Yeah, probably a cold going round. JOJ was very ill a month or so back, I remember seeing the show at one point and he had to go offstage randomly, presumably to couhg.
I'm token JOJ fangirl by the way. Glad you liked him.

audience coughing is probably one of the most annoying things people could do ... it's rude and it's a subconscious form of -I'm bored when will this end-
though, if you have a cold or get a sudden cough attack; it's unescapable.
I've never really heard anyone BUT Fantine cough onstage; probably wasn't paying that close attention

I think sometimes it's dust in the building that makes people cough. I know I wanted to cough a few times when I had been fine before being inside but I saved it for the intermission and held it in during the performence...but I didn't have it that bad. Some people coughed a lot.
More annoying than coughing, I find, is when idiot twats in the audience feel the need to sing or hum along with the songs. I had some girl behind me doing it and I wanted to smash her face in. I pay to hear those on stage, NOT YOU. I had a guy who did the same thing in the last show I went to and it was just as annoying. Don't they realise that they are distracting those unfortuantly enough to be close to them? Morons. I had use all my will power not to snap at them.

This EXACT SAME THING happened to me when I saw the show the last time. DANG. So I told her to shush it and then she basically yelled (and I'm not kidding here) for me to: "Shush yourself!" Which resulted in basically the two rows surrounding her to turn around to see what was happening.
Such a tiny little... I really wanted to put my hands around her tiny little neck and....

I can just see it now.... 'God on hiigggggghhh' runs off stage [cough] runs back 'Hear my praaaaaaaaaayer' etc, etc.

I would've thrown my package of Goobers in her face. I'm usually a pacifist, but lately, something like that would set me off.

When i went to see Miss Saigon i went with this girl (who i hate...but she was someone to go with:P) and she had a really bad cough and i was so close getting up and walking into the aisle and just sitting on the floor!
And when i saw Les Mis, two people behind me were actually full volume talking almost all the way through the first act. Then i think someone grassed on them to an usher and they were silent...god bless ushers

That's truely terrible! I don't know what I would have done but, sheez!
When I saw this dance show a month or two ago, there were people talking REALLY loudly, and I mean really loud. It was crazy! Nearly everyone in the audience glanced around to see what on earth was happening. I couldn't believe that it happened.

ah i went to see the Rivals with school a few months ago, and ths couple sat behind me had the loudest sweet packet in the world...and they kept whispering to each other 'want a sweet?' so i got so annoyed with them i didnt everything in my power to bug them.
when they came in from the interval they stank of smoke so i faked a coughing fit and said to my friend 'here comes lung cancer....' and then when they fell silent (finally) i got an old sweet wrapper out my bag and scrunched it with all my might...oly for a couple of seconds...but i made my point! possibly not the most mature option, but i felt better about it

It seems like so many people just don't know or don't care how to behave in public. Utter morons the lot of them.

The last time I saw Les Mis, I think there was someone in the row behind me that was visually inpaired because often I would hear the lady with him, or her, describing what was happening on stage(like telling when Fantine died). Mosty of the time, though, I don't like things like talking during a performance because it can make me loose focus.

i confess sometimes i whisper to who i am sat with briefly...but i dont have a running cometry...and i am a very quiet whisperer...not one of those people who whisper at the same volume they talk!!

I don't know, when someone's sitting behind you, in front of you, or besides you and they whipser, they might as well be talking right into your ear hole. I don't mind a little whispering, it's pretty inevitable that people will do it, but like you say, run on commentary is horrible.

What really bugs me is when you're in the dress circle or upper circle and people in the rows in front of lean forward, obstructing your view

both times i have been to see les mis as the pitt stike up the openning chords...some people arrive to sit in the row infront, and they make everybody in that row stand up to make room for them! it is very annoying...i am yet to find out at the very openning seconds of les mis look like!!
