The Sewers Sequence - The School Edition

Hi there, I'm new here but I have a question regarding The Sewers sequence from the School Edition, but ifrst a little context as to why I am asking.

Basically, I am in a production of Les Mis to be staged at the Grand Opera House in York and they have had to recast Thenardier. So, for the initial audition I sang Master of the House but for the recal they have asked me to sing The Sewers sequence. Thus, my question is what is in the Sewers bit. In the full show its Dog Eat Dog but I know that they cut it down heavily for the school edition. So what are the lyrics to this sequence involving Thenardier. I know theres the bit where he steals the ring but what else?

A swift answer would be appreciated
Thanking you in advance

I do have a Word document with most, if not all of the School Edition cuts in it. If I find it, I will email it to you.

They cut it down, but we added it back in.

And you should have had your asses sued off...

This is the cut version...it stinks.

Here's a tasty ring
Pretty little thing
Wouldn't want to waste it
That would really be a crime
Thank you sir, I'm in your debt
Add it to the pile
Add it to the stock
Here among the sewer rats
A breath away from Hell
You get accustomed to the smell.
Well someone's got to clean 'em up, my friends
Bodies on the highway
Law and order upside down
Someone's got to collect their odds and ends
As a service to the town!

THATS IT!! (Bloody outrage) Everyone complains about Javert's raw deal what about Thenardier?

You know what??? I'd clean up on that! Where are the actors among you, huh?

I can't do it cos I'm too old but by God, I wouldn't be beaten by those restricted lines! Come on! Backbone! Guts! What the hell is Les Mis about if you don't have those?

AND i did clean up...struck fear into the hearts of many. My insane laughter (ala Barry James) also added to the piece.

It was suprisingly easy to get a good performance with them. Esp. with the right setting of lighting and sound....(good old echo on the mike). I loved it. Maybe i should do it again...*begins searching for the nearest manhole cover*

Dog Eat Dog - Ok, this one's confusing. Everything that's in brackets goes before the unbolded words. Bold = cuts. This is the cuts that I have.

Here's a hint of gold
Stuck into a tooth
Pardon me M'sieur
You won't be needing it no more.
Shouldn't be too hard to sell.

Here's another toy
Take it off the boy
His heart's no longer going
And he's lived his little time
But his watch is ticking yet!

Well, someone's got to clean them up, my friends
Before the little harvest
Disappears into the mud
Someone's got to collect their odds and ends
When the gutters run with blood.

It's a world where the dogs eat the dogs
Where they kill for bones in the street
And God in His Heaven
He don't interfere
'Cause he's dead as the stiffs at my feet
I raise my eyes to see the heavens
And only the moon looks down
The harvest moon shines down!

I also have "No Cuts from The Sewers and Javert's Suicide".

But you agree that the cut version was bad? THen why do you disagree with adding it back in?
Timmy_Wishes he was Quast

i disagree with adding back in beacause it controveens (sp) your contract. AND why should you get away with it when there are plenty of other people who stick with the cuts????

And olly i didn't know there were cuts in Javert's Suicide!?

*Contravenes.

There aren't, I have said there are no cuts in Javert's Suicide, unless you're meaning you thought there were? These are the official cuts, so it must be true Wink

He was talking about how Javert's best stuff (After the Cart Crash, Confrontation, Stars) are majorly cut. I have no prob with productions adding in Stars and Confrontation. All other stuff just makes the long show longer than it needs to be. Especially if the students aren't that good, then you want it over with quickly.

I despise Javert's cuts.

Some of the cuts to the school edition are utterly pointless.

I wish a revised version would be made available with the option of adding some of the cuts back in, like The Confrontation.

I'm sure not every school would do them, as many schools like to remove bits and pieces to shorten their shows anyways. However there are the few talented schools out there who have the chops to handle Les Mis properly.

Though I guess for every talented school there would be 5 not so talented schools who would choose to add what was cut in and be simply dreadful.

Speaking of the cuts...

There used to be a thread that listed all the cuts in the SE on it. I've been searching for it but can't find it - does anyone happen to know that thread's URL?
