The worst Les Mies ever!

Now I know that we have talked about this production of Les Mies before. But I think we need a offcail thread for our hatred of this...Thing.

I present. For those who have not experienced the horribleness of it.

If you want to see something truly wonderful and horrifying, check out Blacklick Valley.

That's my catalogue of all the Blacklick Valley songs in order.

I always feel like I should save those videos off of youtube and repost them somewhere else just in case the kid who posted them ever takes them down.
Ulkis

That part where he collapses to his knees and 'throws' his beret makes me erupt into gales of laughter every time. Every time. Oh man.
pennypingleton1994

I'm just kinda skimming through this video, but are there 3 little Cosettes???

EDIT: Actually, they seem to do that with most of the songs. And WTF is up with Master of the House?
pennypingleton1994

Just saw the curtain call. Shocked

This is why Les Miz should never be attempted by elementary schoolers.
Proud Dork

Never have I laughed so hard in my life. You'd think this was a parody of something, but alas...

Too funny! Its so obvious.. the voices are so much older.. teehee

And I don't know what song it is at 53 minutes.. but its so funny! what?! why is Javert singing such a jazzy song? why are they dancing so strangely? haha I really am puzzled.

I love his voice. It's like he's trying to be good, but the director gave up, and just told him to be jubilant all the time.

The pelvic thrusting at 1:05 is terribly amusing, as well.

EDIT: You can tell that this kid is trying to exactly copy Michael Ball in the TAC. Like, listen to his inflection. He's trying soooo hard. It's hilarious.

nabla

Holy hell that is awful, i just skimmed but a couple of things
My god that slide show at the start goes forever and made me want to throw things
Lol at the innapropriate and extremely annoying dance girls that pop up in nearly every song
LMAO at any of them attempting to act, the prologue pretty much set the tone for the whole thing
One Day More with backing track.... right
What's with all the cheering? We get it, the revolutionaries are little children... it's not that great

HAHA I love that little Marius.. that beret.. hehe
and his voice.. oh its too good to be true!!
SianZena

I am officially amused.
What amuses me most is the fact that all the little children seem to think they doing rather amazingly.
And whats with the three random dancers after Fantine's death? I nearly wet myself.

Indeed I am. Oops, I guess I guess I clicked on the wrong thing. But I'm not sorry. Oh, not sorry at all.

I have nothing against gender bending, by the way.

ETA: the video originally posted is cringeworthy, but also quite humorous. I've never seen a production of Les Miserables that was so dance intensive.
lesmisloony

Hey, Montparnasse and the kid who played Marius in the Blacklick Valley Les Mis are now friends on facebook! No lie. It's beautiful.

Much as I could criticise, I can't deny that I am insanely jealous of the existence of a female Javert (and I could sing that without taking it up an octave!)
lesmisloony

I didn't, actually, but was pointed in its direction by a very clever member of this forum.

It's definitely him. He wants to be a photographer. And apparently he pretty much accepts all friend requests.
Lola-Grace

Oh this is the cringiest thing to ever be let loose from Cringetown in the entire history of cringe...

I just skipped through it but I wanted to chuck my laptop into the fiery chasms of mount doom when they were shouting:

"TO-LOVE-A-NO-THER-PER-SON-IS-TO-SEE-THE-FACE-OF-GAWD"

Aaaaaaaaaah Shocked

The female Javert and Eponine are the saving graces behind the production. Laughing
MlleTholomys

Aww, too bad ODM cuts in at the middle. I wanted to see how terribly they botched Enjolras.
Pannic

I can't get through the first number...

They're screwing with the script and the score! Why are they cutting verses and shouting every other line?
Ulla Dance Again!

I guess it was easier for the kids that way.

Don't get me wrong, I love kids. I love seeing kids embrace theatre at an early age and I love seeing them perform in summer camp shows. That being said, whoever decided that Les Miserables was a good production for an eight day time period is crazy.

*stiil watching the others*

I'm late to the party, my computer can play this stuff now.
Felix Felicis

Made my day, this just completely made my day. I was watching through some of them and suddenly thought, "My word, this Eponine is great!" Then I realised, no, no she's not, but next to these kids she sounds like Lea Salonga.
And the comments with each video are hilarious.
Yakko

Well what do you guys think of this one?

MlleTholomys

I don't think I can watch any more LMSEs. Good God, they all remind me of Blacklick.

But uhm. Wtf? Why is Eponine in a white t-shirt? And why does Enjolras sound like he's yawning?

I don't know about the shirt but I think Enjolras was trying to sound classical.
lesmisloony

Bahaha look at Valjean's beard! I do like the costumes, though...

This video isn't that bad. The worst part is "Cosette" being misspelled in the video information. A few people sound shrill on "the time is now, the day is here," but other than that... why did you link this? The chorus parts are a little bad, I guess. Oh, and the last note was wretched. But it's just average student-level stuff, you know?
MlleTholomys

Wasn't this a community theatre project? Not a high school? I suspect if it were a school, it'd be WAAAY WORSE.

I just wanted to ask since I was in it.
lesmisloony

I figured it was something like that. The costumes are very nice and (other than some vague issues with the harmony in the chorus part and, like I said, the last note being rather painful) it looks like it was a pretty decent show.
Yakko

Well...yeah but the other cast we had was horrible!

Oh yeah the beard was real! He really grew it!
Eppie-Sue

I know this is about the worst Les Mis, but I found these clips of a LSME and I was actually impressed. Especially by their Enjolras. Yes, their voices kind of fail at some notes, but apparently it really was their last night and they are not professional singes, so they may be forgiven.
Anyway. I love how their Enjolras acts. So not GI Joe. And I totally googled him and his MySpace tells me that - wait for it, wait for it - he has read the brick. And it's one of his favourite books, too. So that's all kinds of awesome. Just ignore his riding boots (?) at the beginning.
Besides, they have a rotating stage! And, and, and... just have a look at those videos. Very professional. Great Cosette. Wonderful Gavroche. Amazing overacting from Thnardier.
Although Marius is a bit too... boyband Mr. Green ... dear oh dear.
Master Of The House
Look Down
Red & Black/DYHTPS
In My Life
Gavroche's Death

there are more, but those were my personal highlights. and I know it's really not that fantastic, but after watching Blacklick Valley I found these and they looked Tony-worthy to me in that moment.
MlleTholomys

Ohh! I remember this one! I think I was going to rate it as one of my favourite SEs, but I kinda forgot. I reiterate: their Combeferre = swoon.

And blond, quasi-regency-styled hair!Marius = giggle. The history geek in me is squeeing.

I LOVE their Eponine's On My Own Acting, although her voice was a bit annoying at parts like "pretending"

Oh my God oh my God oh my God, the video from the first post in this thread, I didn't actually watch it until today, and for the love of God, if you're going to SPEAK all the lyrics, why not just use actual dialogue from the book? The musical is not exactly known for its brilliant lyrics.

ahahaha i know Laughing
Though tbh, the speaking the lyrics wasn't even the biggest problem (which is SERIOUSLY saying something)... what was with the interpretive dancing?!
Ulkis

I don't think interpretive dancing is such a bad idea - it is, after all, a musical. But for what they were going for, I think it would have been better to change the dialogue and just make the music intrumental maybe. And it was definitely inappropriate during Stars. WTF? A girl in a pink dress representing Javert. And what was with the demonic chorus? "Just think. Of That. 10 Francs. TEN. FRANCS. FRANCS. FRANCS."
