In my opinion, Th�nardier is one of the best roles in the entire show, because he gets some of the best songs (Master of the House, Dog Eats Dog....awesome songs! Especially DED). Also, he is a huge scene stealer, especially in the Paris/Look Down scene. Amazing character too....he can be played with layers, but in the end he is extremely evil.
He's one of my male dream roles....but I am female. Therefore, we have a problem! |

UrghhI guess its all up to opinion. As a character part there is a lot of room in the creativity department but that also comes down to what show you are presenting. He is not really a viable part in the student edition where there are cuts to Master of the House, The Robbery, The Sewers ( Dog Eat Dog) and to Beggars at the Feast. I agree with TVAW and EOTF in that he is a supporting character but in the end, he can be much, much more than this implies. |

Although Thenardier is a supporting role, he's also--as was already mentioned--a scene stealer. He's also an important part of the musical, not just because he adds a bit of comic relief, but because of his influence on the other characters' lives, directly or indirectly.
I wouldn't think "War Is A Science" would be a good song for a Thenardier audition, although that's just a personal opinion. |
