Weird!I watched "Master and Commander" the other day, and I thought Russel Crowe looked a lot like Philip Quast! Maybe not all the time, but sometimes were scarily similar... Has anyone else noticed this?

He does. They even look similar IRL - same built, same eye color, similar hair - but the long hair and the sideburns just "make it".

Yes, I thought the same thing. Actually my friends and I once tried to cast the whole Aubrey/Maturin series with actors from Les Mis--I think we ended up with Quast as Jack, Jrme Pradon as Stephen, Matt Cammelle (back when he was still young and hot) as Pullings, possibly Marissa McGowan as Sophie... I'm not sure whether we came up with anyone who could do Diana justice. And yes, we did get most of the other recurring characters (Babbington, Mowett, Bonden, Killick, Reade, Sir Joseph Blaine, Harte, Wray, etc) I just don't remember who they were.

I seem to remember a story going around on the old boards at Le Cafe about Philip Quast being annoyed because people seem to ask him for Russell Crowe's autograph rather frequently...
May have been all lies, but I'm pretty sure I saw that somewhere because I hadn't heard of Russell Crowe until I read that, thus I've *always* associated him with Philip Quast.

Well, if we ever meet Russell, we should ask him for autograph as Quast...
I didn't like Russell too much in Gladiator, but he was adorable in 3:10 to Yuma. A ruthless bandit, but still.
They should play brothers once.
