CheezyAsCats

No one dies in the school edition and they all skip merrily through the fields having a picnic and learn a good moral lesson.
ALoneWanderer

Javert doesn't kill himself, but rather ends up realizing Valjean is a good guy and ends up helping him. I actually like this version more as it has more of a morale.

Cheezyascats is kind of exagerating, some people die but they avoid having any of the main characters die. Like Enjolras doesn't get killed, but some of his men do. And that part about a picnic is also less than true, they just all have dinner together for the final scene (as Valjean and Fantine didn't die...Fantine only went into a coma that she wakes from in the end). So yeah everyone ends up alive and Valjean, Fantine, Cosette, Eponine (who didn't die but just got lost on her way back), Javert Enjolras and all the other principles I might be forgetting have this feast together. Not really a picnic but it is a much happier ending Very Happy

Don't forget the pony rides.
ALoneWanderer

Yeah how did I forget! A lot of schools with the budget have the optional final scene (it comes with the MTI liscence but you arnt required to take it) which has all of the characters riding on horses "into the sunset" for the final curtain closing. It's really really dramatic and beautiful looking but a lot of people can't afford to try to have horses or something like horses (usually ponies as TVAW said) just for that scene.

Everything else is more or less the same though.

Laughing Laughing Come on kiddies, play nice.

Anne1doug, there are lots of threads on this board detailing the differences. I'm sure if you search for "schools edition" you'll find what you're looking for.

does gavroche die? and do they have his full song
ALoneWanderer

No gavroche doesn't die, he's present at the banquet as well. They cut his singing down quite a bit as well if I recall correctly.
ALoneWanderer

Any more questions?
sadie1208

The school edition that I saw recently they did not sugar coat it at all.
ALoneWanderer

If by sugar coat you mean didn't include the changes we've listed theres a good chance it wasn't actually the school edition and they illegally used the original with some minor changes.

Tsk tsk tsk.
Lazarus (Adam G)

I hate the School Edition.
ALoneWanderer

Mmk, I'm beginning to get kind of concerned.

You people do realize I was kidding right? As were CheezyAsCats and TVAW.
Magic2Do

From what I saw, very little difference.

I know, but I still hate the school edition.
Anne1doug

if ur school does les mis do they HAVE to do the school edition or can they do the full one?
Mademoiselle Lanoire

They have too do the SE. The full one is not available for amateurs, or for most professional companies, for that matter.

Ur is an ancient city in Mesopotamia.

The word you should be using is "your."

we did the school edition and it was pretty much the same as the full length show only some of the songs were shortened. At the end the only principals alive were Cosette, Marius and the Thenardiers. isnt that how it is in the real one?

Eh, director's call, no matter how uncanny it is.

Are you serious...? Shocked

...If my school ever does Les Mis, I think I'm going to have to make everybody shirts that say in big red letters "I should be dead" to wear for the last scene...
ALoneWanderer

Hahaha, I thought I was dripping with enough sarcasm there, but apperantly not. I recommend reading the whole thread Razz

No, opinionated. I'm glad you liked it, but the sentiment is not the same across the board.
christinadaae

whoa...... definatley didn't catch on to the sarcasm until about 3 posts.

I was in school edition, and it was pretty much the same. We added back in some of the music waht was cut, because we're cool like that.
IF you're going to do the student edition, the song I most recommend adding back in is the "confrontation" between javert and valjean after fantine's death.
