Who's going to the revival and when?

So, who's going to the Broadway revival of this sucker and when?

I am, the day after Thanksgiving, which is a good thing, because I'll actually be able to see most of the original cast, even though the only two I've heard of before are Beach and Rubin-Vega.
Orestes Fasting

November 8th or 9th, with any luck.
MmeJavert

November 8th, the day before the official opening day. Well, if I ever get around to buying my tickets...
convict24601

You guys are going on my birthday! Do you have any extra tickets? Otherwise I have no idea if I'm going or not. But my friends are thinking of going during March Break.

Hey, people can dream. Smile
NotoriousFunnt

I don't know when I'm going to go...I was going to try for November when I come home from college for thanksgiving break but don't have time there. Maybe next year I'll find some time...going to be hard, 'cause like, every time we have a 3 day weekend everyone goes home and I have to stay here and I've got super long rehearsals on Saturday and can't go then. Maybe next March I will? I have a week off from school and I'm not going to orchestra that week. *strokes chin*
broadwaybaby124

November 25th.
DuvalGT

I'm going on the first night it's showing, 24th of this month, hope it's a blast!
Lazarus (Adam G)

As soon as I steal some money. Wink

Aaarrrrrr....
Eponine Thenardier

YES. I AM DEFINITELY GOING. =]]] Since my parents have conflicting vaca time, it's between mid-Nov. and early Dec.

edit: I'm going December 6th! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy
What Is This Feeling?

I'm going on November 15, 2006 with my Highschool!!!!! I'm sooooo excited! I have an off topic question though: Is this possibly gonig to be an open run? Because although it says Individual tickets selling up to 3/11/2007, it also is selling group tickets up to: September 2007. I would like if this could be an open-ended run.

They're very likely to extend to September or possibly beyond, but I doubt it'll be open-run because another likelihood is of another tour opening up, which would need the set and costumes from the revival.
Quique

Omg...the idea of another tour opening up really got me all excited, lol.

Though I don't think that will happen. Especially one that will utilize the Broadway revival's (originally from the 3rd national tour) sets and costumes. If there is to be another tour, I think whoever produces it will want to cut back costs and either build a new, scaled down set or completely redesign the show. I don't think Cameron will be producing another tour as he said the revival is his farewell to the U.S. (well Les Mis, anyway).

To me, Ep-Griz-Reno's post points to a new non-Equity tour: http://musicals.net/forums/viewtopic.php?p=592865#592865
Quique

Omg...is this confirmed? Shocked

Don't get me all excited now unless you're sure it's going to happen, cause this is amazing news!!!

Are there any other links to details about this?

You already seem awfully excited, and about something that's several months old.

But to answer your question, I haven't heard anything outside that one post. And actually, I heard the contrary -- that it was more likely Cammack would go ahead with full-out regional rights rather than launching a tour. My info is about a year old, though it came from a very reliable person.
Quique

I don't know how I missed that news back in July.

I really hope there is a tour and it better come to L.A.!

I sobbed like a small child at the final L.A. performance of the 3rd national tour. I turned to my sis and said in emotional voice with tears streaming down my cheeks..."I-i-i-t's the end of a-a-an era!!!" Crying or Very sad

She was like..."freak." Rolling Eyes

lol.

awwww lol

My friend is a swing for the show, so I'm going whenever he calls me and lets me know that he's going on that night! (He's covering 11 male roles, so he'll probably go on quite a few times!) I can't wait to see it! Smile
PublicFlogging

I intend to. My theatre teacher said he'd hook me up with cheap tickets... but I don't know when.

Thanks, I'd love to read it and I'm sure everyone else would too!

I'm ready to cry. I can't go, and November 9th is my BIRTHDAY, hang it all. I don't live in NY.

An East Coast friend of mine called me last night and said he'd been thinking of going later in the run, but decided he should go this weekend because he wanted to see it while Daphne was still Fantine. (Based on the reviews so far, he had a point.)
Stargirl5

I already saw it a week ago. It was incredible and the only REALLY good performance I've seen of it out of 3.

...Excluding Daphne. Sorry, kids.

No need to apologize. Seems like that's the general sentiment.
Eponine Poe

I want to see it so badly...Daphne Rubin-Vega...*loves*

Are you sure you want to see it when your Daphne has received such terrible reviews from almost every review; both amateur and professional?
taintedxl0ve

I have no idea when I'm going, but I know I'm going. I've wanted to see it on Broadway since forever. Seeing Daphne is going to be horrible, since I can't stand her voice, and from what've I've heard, she's even worse in Les Mis.

There haven't been any professional reviews yet. The show doesn't officially open for another four days.
Quique

Most of the new orchestrations are OK.

I HATE the ones for "On My Own" and "Lovely Ladies" though. They're awful.

Daphne is fine. People are so full of sh*t.

Really? I heard some clips of her in rehearsal on broadway.com and she sounded/looked dreadful. Maybe she's getting better as the previews go on and into the opening.
Trevor

My friend went to see it in NY and knew nothing previously about Vega...

He said she was horrible.
I was like "yeah. you should hear her in Rent." Rolling Eyes
Quique

For the record, I haven't seen the revival but got a hold of some audio and I don't hear what's the problem.

It seems people just don't like her raspiness and are shocked she actually sounds the same she did in Rent. What were people expecting? For her voice to miraculously change? That's her voice and I was expecting her to sound like that. It doesn't bother me at all. her acting sounds strong and I like the vulnerability she put in the role. I like the breathy quality of her voice in the finale too. Really, it's a matter of taste and most who don't like her have issues with her raspiness or anyone's raspiness for that matter.

OK, she may not be the typical blonde, Broadway belter usually cast in the role but I think she makes a great Fantine. I think people just want to see the same "look" for Fantine and feel uncomfortable that it's different now. I don't know, I think she isn't nearly bad. She's actually pretty good from what I've heard so far. People are being too harsh.

That might be the case. Check out the videos on Broadway.com if they are still up. Sometimes seeing it can help see where people are coming from. It could also be those videos that are giving me my distaste for her in the role (for the record I never minded her in Rent). The scene on there really bothering me is Fantine's Death. Like i said before though, maybe she's grown in the character throughout the previews.

I'm not sure if anyone was expecting her voice to miraculously change or anything, most people know what her voice is and know its not anything like the usual voice type cast as Fantine ex. Ruthie Henshaw.
Orestes Fasting

I have the same audio, and I think people were exaggerating her awfulness in the very beginning of the show. She really went downhill after Lovely Ladies though. She sucked in Fantine's arrest and didn't seem to recover herself during the death scene.

But her IDAD definitely falls on the side of new and different, not dreadful. I was expecting something a little stronger in the finale, but whatever. She may not be the best Fantine I've ever heard, but she's not half as terrible as people are making her out to be.

The problem is, you shouldn't have to go in and make excuses for her not being able to handle the material. Yes, a lot of people know that trademark rasp from her work in Rent (and I do enjoy her Mimi on the OBC). But at the same time, if, say, Charlotte Church started playing Maureen (IMO, that'd be similarly inappropriate as Daphne as Fantine) I shouldn't have to brush off her operatic sound by knowing she has a background in a different genre of music.

The performance should stand on its own, and I don't think Daphne's Fantine does. Her sound doesn't fit in with Les Miz, and worse, does not fit in with the rest of the cast.
MsDivaKate

Well said, TVAW.

Like I said, it's a matter of taste. Some think she doesn't fit in, well Ok, I respect their opinions.

I think she's OK. I'm not raving about her either. I just pointed out that people are being waaay harsh. I really expected something absolutely dreadful and painful to listen to. It turns out she sounds exactly as she did in Rent and that's what I expected. It just gets on my nerves how people are all up in arms over the fact she sounds like Mimi and that the raspiness is still there.

I never said she's great. I don't even think she's really anything to be excited about either but she's nowhere nearly as bad as so many have said. People made it sound as if she's absolutely disgusting in the role. I hate it when people are irrationally brutal like that.

On a different note, I'm so very upset over some of the orchestrations, it's not even funny. They sound like a movie soundtrack. Really, there was NO need to change them. Some numbers are better than others and I generally like most of them but I am upset over some of my favorite songs being tamerpered with beyond recognition. They sound totally different or just stupid. Like "Lovely Ladies" - wtf!!!???

It's bad enough the whores already resemble clowns, now the music makes it seem like we're at the f*cking circus instead of the red light district, ugh.
taintedxl0ve

I've never liked her voice, in Rent or anywhere else, so yeah. She's not horrible but her voice doesn't do much for me at all.
