These aren't weird but I don't know where else to post them. Both are from the London production at its original Palace Theatre home in 1999. It was also the time when they used a glorious, full orchestra instead of the awful Sinfonia machine they use now at the Queens Theatre.

The amazing John Owen Jones as Valjean singing "What Have I Done." The video quality is excellent, though the audio a bit out of synch.

"Lovely Ladies" and "Fantine's Arrest."

Just how long did Ricky Martin last in Les Mis? I just wonder cos based on that performance if I were Valjean, I'd leave him to die on the barricade and save someone else.
Robinflamingo

He was actually in the show about a year.

(That's during the one time I was in NYC and DIDN'T see Les Mis...hehehehehehe)
What Is This Feeling?

OMG! The Lovely Ladies Fantine's Arrest was bloody good! That's probably the best I've seen it, ever! It was so dark, and degrading, and abusive. The Broadway revival is very different. This guy was way more abusive to Fantine then in the Broadway revival, and the thing about the rival is, that yeh, he hit her and mafde suggestive gestures with his cane, but when Fantine said: "I'll kill u u bastard, try any of that!.." Daphne hit him, and threw him accross the stage. I like this one though too. The Broadway revival gives Fantine more revenge on the customer.

Part of this is due to the cuts and part of it just depends on the actors. There's a lot less opportunity for Bamatabois to smack Fantine around when the "It's the same with a tart as it is with a grocer" bit isn't there, but Daphne was definitely hitting back a lot harder than is usual.

This is so god-awful it's actually rather funny. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QAtHSS7wCAE Just more Ricky onstage.

Although, I do admit, the last time I was in the city (to see Rent... go figure) I brought the rip-off souveniere Les Mis fan booklet or whatever you'll call it, because it had a big glossy picture of Aaron Lazar on the back cover. There's this fold-out montaugey thingie in it with Les Mis through the ages- all sorts of various pictures of both the revival and the original London and Bway production, and identifications on the other page. I was looking at this one picture of this guy who was obviously playing Marius. He was SO attractive... then I looked at the caption... guess who it was? Our dear Ricky. He looked quite different in costume.
What Is This Feeling?

Yes, exactly. I don't know I don't dislike either way really, they are just evidently very different. I really kind of like them both.

Oh, they're finally selling the souvenir brochures? Sweet. I'll have to get one next weekend.
Eponine93

Yeah... it's a rip-off but it's pretty powerful, even for a souvenierre brochure. I admit, I was getting a little teary-eyed when I looked at some of the pictures for the first time Embarassed
Orestes Fasting

How much was it, by the way?
Eponine93

Um... somewhere in the price range of what I could buy a CD with... I believe it was $18. For someone who doesn't have a job, it's a rather significant amout of money. But it was worth it.

I got it at the little Broadway store under the Marriot Marquis. I swear, I live for that store... You probably can find a better deal if you look somewhere else, though.
LesWickedPhantom

the souvenier program? I got mine for 10 bucks at the Broadhurst...

oy... I love me that glossy Aaron pic on the back....
eponine5

Yeah, the standard price is $10. It shocked me, but then again I think in pounds, so everything in America always seems twice as expensive to me. I would probably have bought it at your price anyway, Eponine93, if it was being sold for that at the theatre though. I'm terrible when it comes to compromising prices.
