Youtube of me singing Empty Chairs and Empty Tables

I saw some people on youtube doing this and I thought I'd give it a try. Please don't laugh. Smile

The fact that the audio is not matching the lips is making it hard to believe that voice belongs to you.

But if it does... AMAZING! You have a great voice.

It doesn't sync up? I guess my camera sucks. But thanks for the compliment!

It's hard to find work as an asian...know of any miss saigons or king and i's that need singers? lol
Quique

Beautiful voice! One one of the best I've heard in a really long time. Natural talent you've got there. Applause

Aww, thanks. I kinda did it as a lark too... Thanks so much.
Quique

It really is brilliant. Obviously, you'd make a great Marius, but I think you'd also rock as Valjean. You'd make a perfect Thuy in Miss Saigon!
Orestes Fasting

It looks lip-synched to me, too, and I find it kinda dodgy that such a crappy camera would get such good sound quality. On the other hand, where else would the audio be coming from? It doesn't sound like it's from a bootleg.

If it really is you, dude, you should audition for a professional production. Plenty of shows, including Les Mis, do multi-ethnic casting; the last Broadway Marius was Filipino. If it's not you--for shame.

I'm Filipino too!! Yeah, I promise it's me singing. Sorry about the camera quality--I guess I should get a better one. Anyway, I'm also kinda short (5'7") and that seems to get in my way also in auditions. Seems like it's been less about the singing nowadays. And lord knows that I'd love to sing this show more than anything...

Thanks for the heads up on the multi ethnic casting...I'd even settle for a bit part or chorus if I got to sing in les mis. I'm sure most would.

Haha, there's that light head voice thing that Valjean does that eludes a lot of singers, including myself. Maybe one day when I'm *older. Smile

How high is Thuy? It's a screamer, no?
Quique

What kind of camera is it, btw? Twisted Evil I've been searching for one that records high quality audio and would love to know!

I also had slight doubts it was really you, but I do believe you. The other thing that strikes me is that you hardly seem to be putting any effort. It's like that sound just comes flowing perfectly from your mouth.

But yeah, like others said, bravo to you if it is you. And shaaaaame if not. XD

I've studied singing for a little while and have, for the most part (wishful thinking), have realized that any tension in your body will tighten your voice. Large physical movements are read better than facial contortions--especially in a big house. I didn't do any of that stuff--I really don't know anything about camera acting lol. But, yeah, like those big opera singers like Pavarotti, Carreras, Milnes, don't really move their faces a whole lot, as to avoid tension at the cords. ...lol, sorry, I get onto caveats sometimes. Youtube those guys--they sing like gods but don't really put the tension in the face that a lot of musical theater singers do. Personal preference, I guess.

Also, singers should know that singing comes from the cords, not the mouth. The mouth is just a hole. I was given the idea that if I sing from my cords and not my "mouth" that it would make an easier mellower sound. I could go on and on...sorry...

The camera is actually a Samsung digital camera. I'm just using the short video function. Ghetto.

Like a way earlier version of this one:

Which is probably why the video didn't capture right...those things aren't really made for that purpose...
Quique

No worries, I believe you. Smile

The lack of tension is a good thing. It allows a much more controlled sound. Very nice job!

Thanks! My neighbors finally told me to shut up...I don't blame em!
Trevor reincarnate

Mine are still yet to tell me to shut up. Maybe they're afraid I'll sing more if they ask me to shut up. I'm that type of person.

Every big city should have singer/instrument houses where we can practice in peace. Except no french horns.

I hate listening to a french horn practice. Prolly cause i used to date one...

Bravo on your Thenardier by the way. I was going to respond...but I got nervous towards the end of that thread. Smile

I quoted this because I had a joke all made up. But it left me so quickly cuz I've only slept 3 hours in the last 60 hours. Boo. I will edit when it comes back to me.

Haha, it probably had SOMETHING to do with me saying that I dated a french horn. Nah, I dated the player not the instrument.

...can you imagine...

..no. nevermind Wink

Where do you look, by the way?
mastachen

^That might be it. I'll get some sleep later and it'll come to me.

Anyways, just go to a local community college or something and just use one of their empty facilities. I did that all the time back in high school - I'd just go in and practice piano until someone tells me to leave because they already reserved the room, in which case I go look for another room. lol

I found out yesterday that I can book a room at the Music School for about 5 euro's or something.
Shame that it isn't for free, but it may be worth the price since I live in this huge student flat and I can't really fully use my voice here.

Also, if you've done gigs with local churches, they are usually accommodating if no one is using the space. I've done that a couple of times, too. Plus you get some nice acoustics if you get to use their main area.

Where in Europe are you?
Fantine

The Netherlands.
