Karaoke, Anyone??

Well, Orestes started one on Abaisse, so I figured, meh, why the hell not? (unless, of course, this is not allowed, upon which I will gladly take it down following Aimee or GayBoy's orders Razz)

This, as the title suggests, is a karaoke thread. If you have clips of you making an ass of yourself, then by all means, put them up for everyone else to hear.

I'll start everyone off, because they don't come wankier than me. Huzzah.

So! Please enjoy an episode of : 'Cloudy mutilates the Czech language!!'

Samotřka (the Czech On My Own) :

That was amazing. You are my hero Wink

I will post my fairly awful version of "In My Life" as soon as I can find a decent mic.

This was actually recorded a few weeks ago, in, erm, honor of the show's 21st birthday.

Here's 'Kom Till Mig', the Swedish 'Come To Me', which worked fifty billion times better than the Czech one.

Kom Till Mig : http://www.megaupload.com/?d=U4DUDAI0

...and here's La Lluvia al Caer (the Spanish (Argentina) 'A Little Fall of Rain) (which is really horrible vocally, plus I started sniffling to myself at 'cerca tuyo en mi hogar...' and crying at 'no necesito ms...' which messed me up--and I'm not even an Eppie-bopper) :

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=7T2JFALF

Also, thanks bunches to Eponine's Rain for the lovely ALFOR backing.
EponinesRain

Hahah, the Ten Years More clip was absolutely brilliant, Orestes! Hats off to ya! Cloudy, you're always making me laugh with your wacky karaoke. Very Happy Some notes missed (hehe, sorry I know, I'm such a critic) but I'm amazed at all the emotion you put in your ALFOR. You definitely owned it emotion-wise and your voice was a great interp of Eponine! Wink I may get some of my clips on and then y'all can poke fun of me, too!

Hahaha Laughing
In 2004 I recorded myself singing On My Own in four languages. Each stanza in another language: Dutch, English, French and German.

It completely sucked, not only because I improved my singing greatly since then, but also because I simply hadn't listened to the French and German versions enough, so I forgot some French lines.

I still have it and might upload it later.

OH MY GOD!

I've totally done that!! Except mine was Spanish, French, English, and Dutch. When I do Come To Me I use Spanish, French, Swedish, and German.

Wow, I'm glad I'm not the only freak...

I still owe you a poorly done karaoke, don't I, Cloudy?

I might try the Tenor version of "Stars" I've been working on.

Mijn Droom :
http://www.uploading.com/files/0Y156J3D/Mijn_Droom__better_.mp3.html

The best I could come up with. The 'shame' is horrible, as I started too low, and the music was really loud at the end so I got loud and nasally because I couldn't hear myself. But hey!! It's all good.

And this is the very first thing I recorded when I got my mic.

In My Life.

Be warned. Correct note hitting was the last thing on my mind, and you will wince on several occasions. Also, near the beginning, the volume goes up and down wonkily, because I was fiddling with the mic volume because I'm stupid. This was just experimentation and was never supposed to see the light of day, but Xen asked, so...

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=KAKYOKGK

I did all of Cosette's lines (and Eponine's too) without music or men-- therefor, there is no one to counterbalance my obnoxious, whiny, nasally Cosette who sounds frighteningly like Tracy Shayne on a bender. Start throwing bricks now.

(My IML doesn't normally sound this horrible... Really.)

Also, yes, I've put a ton of crap up so far. I apologize. My microphone just has me all a titter. It'll wear off eventually.
eponinelover

Great job Cloudy on all the different language clips! I would like to see other clips from you. I will post L'un Vers L'autre as soon as I get it recorded! BTW, could I see the topic on the other forum?

You have to be a member to see the 'Music' section, which is where all the karaoke is.

Cloudy This Morning

Awwww, now I wanna do "Voil le Soir Qui Tombe"...

Sadly, when I do that, OR L'un Vers L'Autre, I come out sounding exactly like I do when I sing Les Miserables songs in Japanese : like I'm seven. Srsly. I sound like I'm freakin' in first grade when I try to do the Japanese 'Little Fall of Rain'.

...maybe I'll do that just to show you what I mean.

Lazarus (Adam G) wrote:

What is a 'Diva' version?
Cloudy This Morning

Bah. Here's something else in Dutch. Technically Miss Saigon rather than Les Miserables, but...

Die Film Draait Door Mijn Hoofd : http://www.megaupload.com/?d=MXU5OHQK

Now, I only listened to the actual song twice before trying it. So, it was a case of 'Gah-I-have-to-learn-this-Dutch-song-super-fast'. I think I could've done worse, but it also could have been much better. I'm sure the pronunciation is horrifically mangled.

Also, it's a bit shaky because it's hard for me to keep my voice that low.

Oooohhh, thank you! Sorry 'bout that. Heh.

Nice Valjean voice. I squeed a little bit. Very Happy Good job. I'd like to hear you sing...say... 'What Have I Done?' or 'Who Am I?' That would be great.

Also--your goatee is too cute.
Tj@themusicals

Hehe, squeed??? What on earth is that??

I would love to try that track, I can't seem to find the backing track though sadly! Shame!!!

Tj@themusicals

Hehe, maybe I will then! Any other songs from the shows I should think of doing??

olly

First off, I will say that I am typing this as I listen, so please forgive the bad english and short sentences.

Tj, I'm listening to your Gethsemene and I am very impressed. You have a lovely rich voice that has a beautiful timbre and I like your use of vibratto. My only criticism of this one would be that I'd like to see you become more emotive when singing "Let them hit me..." (around that bit), I like it when the Jesus have a really strong voice (see Balsamo) - it hits me personally far stronger with a really strong / louder voice at that point. Your high notes: "Why..." sent shivers down my spine - it was very well hit. Perhaps slightly squeaky, but when coming down I liked "...should I die?". Overall, I really enjoyed your version: fantastic voice. Very much like Balsamo's actually. Thank you very much for posting this.

On Bring Him Home. Nice start; nice and soft - sounds very much like a prayer. When hitting the longer notes: "...young", try not putting any vibratto on it, and just holding your note: I prefer it this way (in my opinion). Other than that, nice use of vibratto. You have a very nice Jean Valjean voice. I like the "let him be..." and I like how you get louder as you become more immersed in your prayer. I really liked this verison, and I would love to hear other Valjean songs from you. To be honest, I preferred your version of this than Gary Morris'.

Very well done on both!
Tj@themusicals

Firstly, let me thank you for your critique. It is really appreciated! I agree on many of your points, there are many things I would like to improve myself and I generally agree with you, so thank you. As for the high note, it's didn't sound shrill until I burnt it to CD and uploaded it, I was abit upset by that myself actually, but I guess that might be a compression issue Smile
Seriously though mate, thank you so much, it is really spurring me on to record more and just better myself.
olly

No problem whatsoever! It was a pleasure to listen to. I hope that you will stay around here a bit so that we may hear more of your voice. I've bookmarked your page so that I can listen to your versions as often as I like (and to check that more are coming!). I understand about the squeakiness: it must be very frustrating. I have a few friends that have had that problem. If it sounded brilliant whilst squeaky, I can imagine what it sounds like live! Again, thank you very much for posting this!
Tj@themusicals

My pleasure mate Smile
I will keep you updated with new songs. Can you suggest any other songs I should try?
olly

If I may, I am going to put down a list of the songs that I'd like to hear you sing Very Happy

1. Valjean's Soliloquy
2. Who Am I?
3. The Confrontation (with a friend? I have the music if you like)
4. Stars
5. Javert's Suicide
6. Empty Chairs At Empty Tables

I have all the relevent backing tracks if you need (they're not as good as the ones you are using). Which reminds me... Where did you get such brilliant backing tracks for both Gethsemene and Bring Him Home?
Tj@themusicals

Well, to my surprise I found Bring him home and many other show songs on i tunes!
I just typed in....

karoke, bring him home

It was there. As for Gethsemane, it's taken me years, I finally found it on Limewire as a shared file.

What other songs from other shows would suit my voice do you think?
olly

I don't know that many musicals at all. Just mainly some of Lloyd-Webber's better stuff and, of course, Les Mis.

Les Miserables
1. Valjean's Soliloquy
2. Who Am I?
3. The Confrontation (with a friend? I have the music if you like)
4. Stars
5. Javert's Suicide
6. Empty Chairs At Empty Tables

Phantom Of The Opera
1. The Music of the Night (brilliant song)
2. All I Ask of You (but it has a female part...)
3. The Point of No Return

Jesus Christ Superstar
1. Heaven On Their Minds
2. Pilate's Dream
3. King Herod's Song (a bit different)

Joesph And The Technicolor Dreamcoat - Warning that these are far more childish Smile
1. Any Dream Will Do
2. Close Every Door To Me (excellent song)
3. Song Of The King (Smile You like Elvis?)

Evita
1. Don't Cry For Me Argentina (this sounds weird but I've heard an excellent male's rendition of this)

West Side Story
1. Maria

Chess - I don't particularly like this musical, but it has grown on me.
1. Anthem

This is all I can't think of for now, however if I think of anymore, I'll be sure to post them up!
Tj@themusicals

Awesome, cheers bud.
Here are the tracks that I have shortlisted so far:

Music of the night - Phantom of the opera
This is the moment -Jeckyll and Hyde
Sweet Transvestite - Rocky Horror show
Suddenly Seymour - Little shop of horrors
Close every door - Joseph....
Somewhere out there
Bui Doi - Miss Saigon
Why god why - Miss Saigon

Alright, clearly I'm the only one playing anymore. REGARDLESS!!!

Here's Confrontation. Yes, with just me. I used Audacity, and this deformity was born. Should probably be put down. Also, Javert's voice kept cracking because I couldn't decided which pitch to keep him at. Blah.

Er, also, Lazzy-baby asked that Valjean's 'I'll what must be done!" line be shrill and annoying. I obliged.

Modify your voice a bit. Adjust the pitch or something.

Audacity can work magic! Wink

Seriously! I've got the first half of ODM! done. I decided to do that again instead of DYHTPS?, because it really, really hurts my throat to do Enjolras for that long, and my voice cracks a lot because I can't stay low. Really horrible. One Day More, at least, is amusing.

neva di? i must say, i love how people mis-hear hebrew. it's le-vadi, but it's one word, i split it to emphisize the sound it should make. and sorry to tell you, but you pronounced about 10 words in all correctly. i don't blame you, i don't think i would've understood the words if i didn't speak the language. nice try though, apart from the translation, do you actually know what you're saying?

i think i'd like to try my hand (or voice actually) at this karaoke stuff (in hebrew, i like the hebrew les mis), but since i'd rather not destroy anyone's ear drums, i think i'll wait till my cold is over and my voice is back to its normal self

Don't be sorry! It's actually quite helpful. I've screwed so many things over I'm hardly shy about something calling me on my butchering of a language (you don't speak Czech, do you?) I don't know a single word in Hebrew. Not a one. (not to mention I didn't have lyrics) And the stupid recording is so fuzzy, it took me forever to make out what I actually did. Cloudy, you're my hero.

In God's name, why? You've been searching your whole life to hear just how wanky 'A Heart Full of Love' could get? Wink

Omfg...Cloudy This Mornin', you're such an inspiration!!! lol!!!

You've inspired me to record myself and just post without worries, hehe! It wasn't one take, it was actually three in the ECAET2 clip - the continuation to my previous ECAET clip that left off at "and they rose with voices ringing." So, you might hear a few clicks and skips as I edited the pieces together.

And no, I'm not just saying this...this honestly isn't my best singing. My voice here is extremely tense. You can clearly hear the tension in my vibrato. Sheesh! I need to loosen up! lol. Mad I actually sing better than this and I will eventually record myself singing better and will post someday. :S Here, I sound sharp and high pitched in certain parts. My vibrato is kinda messy too. I usually have a very deep, operetic voice. Here it sunds different due to the tension. I also pronounce the words kind of funny, oh well, lol. Btw, there's no backing track to this. :S

I've uploaded to PutFile.com so no downloading required. You can listen onsite.

ECAET2

And here's a little bit of me singing the part of the Bishop Of Digne.

Bishop1

I was a little bit more relaxed there but still had some tension in my throat. Also, the last low note = buttmunch. Shocked I can usually hit it perfectly. I will rerecord that part and post later. =)
