Les Mis @ Hollywood Bowl (formerly titled Holy. God.)

http://www.broadwayworld.com/viewcolumn.cfm?colid=24765

And it's near my 18th Birthday too!
Moooooooooooooooooooooooooom!
curlyhairedsoprano91

OH MY GOODNESS!!!!

Who's going to be in it??

THIS IS SO EXCITING!!!!
lesmisloony

OMIGOD ME ME ME I WANT TO GO!
*calls home*
curlyhairedsoprano91

Oh god. I totally live across the country from Hollywood, but I have family there! I could maybe potentially wangle it if the stars line up!!!
Trevor reincarnate

I just called the Hollywood Bowl. Tickets go on sale May 1st. She didn't know the prices yet.
mastachen

I WANT TO GO I WANT TO GO!
Trevor reincarnate

I just called my mom. Luckily, she's a Les Mis freak as well.
We're likely going.

She said she wanted to get me something BIG for my 18th birthday (espessially because my other 17 birthdays have sucked).
This came at the perfect time.

Phone call

Me: Hey mom.
Mom: Hi.
Me: Remember when I told you all I want for my birthday is cigarettes and porn?
Mom: Yes.
Me: I lied.
lesmisloony

TREVOR YOU MUST KEEP US UPDATED ON THIS.
mastachen

Looks like it's gonna be one big MdN party?

LOL good I won't be going alone Smile
lesmisloony

Dude, if there is ANY WAY for me to get there from NC I will.

ANY. WAY.

Unfortunately, I've never even been further west than Kentucky. (Except for going to Mexico by plane, but I'm talking about *in* the US.) And my mom has a fogeyish mistrust of my "internet friends." Rolling Eyes Old people. So I doubt I'll be able to go.

BUT I WILL TRY.

Haha, all the people who go should, like, meet up for dinner or something.
mastachen

lesmisloony wrote:

Sure. I'd like to meet Trevor's mom. Laughing
Trevor reincarnate

Keep her out of this, buddy.

ha!
LaurelDP

AHH I WANNA GO!!! Shocked

But I wouldn't pay more than $120, maybe $150.
Trevor reincarnate

I will cough out whatever (of my mom's money) it takes!
Set_Buildin_Dad

Fantastic News! I'll figure out if I want to go when they publish the cast list. Looks like a good bet to bring the whole family to. It would be fun to meet some fellow MdNers there if I go. I'll let you all know.
InspectorDani

I wanna go!!!!!!

OMG that is 5 days before my birthday!!!!

*calls bf*

"Hey, hun. Were taking a trip for my birthday!!"

haha, omg I am so going to try and go. But that is cross country for me. How long you think it would be driving?? haha jk
Quique

OMG!!!!!!!!

The Hollywood Bowl is just a hop, skip, and a jump away from me! This is so exciting!

Imagine the size of the orchestra they're going to use!!! AHHH!!! This is the best news I've heard in a long time.

I'm DEFINITELY attending. Very Happy
lesmisloony

Quote:
Imagine the size of the orchestra they're going to use!!!

And now, the overwhelming aching reality that there's almost zero percent chance of me getting out there is really, really beginning to sting.

... Crying or Very sad

NO! I'M LESMISLOONY, DANGIT! I DO NOT SURRENDER TO REALITY!

I'm the girl who has planned not one, but *two* trips to see LM in NYC before it closed on Broadway! And each in less than a month! And one of those in the eighth grade!
I WILL FIND A WAY.

If I have to sweat in the sewers or in the plague hospital, I'll go... and I'll see it!
Quique

XD

That's the spirit! I know you'll make it! Very Happy
lesmisloony

Plane tickets there and back would be able $900.

Well, off to check about trains.
And then buses.
And then hitchhiking. Smile

ETA: If I don't mind spending two and a half days on a bus, there and back, I can get round trip tickets as cheap as $180 from Greyhound!
(LOL that I'm already working on this.)
curlyhairedsoprano91

Uuuuugh I wanna go sooooo bad ...

Anyone know when the cast list will be released?
lesmisloony

I just got off the phone with my mom.
She's all, "You know you're going to have to pay for college, right?"

Ugh. She does NOT UNDERSTAND.
curlyhairedsoprano91

I can't even bring it up with my mom or dad, I don't even know ... my mom will be like, "Yeah, well, we can't always do what we want, and I'm paying for this and that and this and that and there's no way you can expect to get to Hollywood for this concert."

It's not going to happen. But I want ittttttt .... SOOO much ... especially after they didn't even let me go to NY to see the revival ... *needs Les Mis*
inspectordickon

Who??

Who do you think will be in the cast? As much as JOJ would own the show, he's back home, so I bet they will call up Alexander Gemignani or (God on high willing) Drew Sarich. Norm Lewis should be Javert hands down, and I bet he will be. Lea as Fantine, and for Marius, Enjy, Eponine, who knows?
lesmisloony

As much as I'd love to see ^^those again, I imagine it'll be a little more international. Kinda like the TAC? Perhaps?

I mean, I'm just guessing, obviously, but that seems likely.
curlyhairedsoprano91

If it's not JOJ ... I'll not be happy.
Lea as Fantine ... I like Drew Sarich as Javert. I mean, he's no Quast, but they can't do Quast again, right?
Celia K-B as Eponine, and Adam Jacobs as Marius. Enj and Cosette ... I don't know ... there really aren't many Cosettes I've heard recently that even marginally measure up to the 2 originals (Caine and Kuhn) ... make that none. Except maybe Ana Marina (she's in australia, right?). Enj ... Victor Wallace?
Trevor reincarnate

My hopes (but not necessarily ideal) for the cast

JOJ - Valjean
Alan Rickman - Javert
Hugh Panaro - Marius
Celia K-B - Eponine
Stephanie J Block - Fantine
Robin Williams or Jason Alexander - Thenardier
Aaron Lazar - Enjolras
Jenny Galloway - Mme. Thenardier
Ed Sanders - Gavroche

Don't care about Cosette.
curlyhairedsoprano91

^^ I'm guessing it would be more like the TAC and they'd ask people to play the roles as a reprise ... you know, people who have already played them. Meaning ... no Alan Rickman, SJB, or ... Robin Williams Question d'oh!
Trevor reincarnate

Are you dissing on Robin?
Because if you are, you can die.

Anywayssssss... Like I said, not ideal. Read.
lesmisloony

Can Alan Rickman and Robin Williams sing, though?

(Please don't say AR was singing in the ST movie... because that's not... good... singing...)

But... well, the train tickets look like they'll be about $800 as well. So, if I go, I guess it'd be by Greyhound.

That's dedication, people. Three days either way on a bus. Dedication.
Trevor reincarnate

Robin can definately sing. Ever seen Aladdin?
curlyhairedsoprano91

Nosir, not dissing Robin. Great performer in his own right. I just never saw him as much of a Thenardier ... he's too crazy, not dark enough. He tried to play "dark" in August Rush and it didn't work too well.

Jason Alexander, however ... I like.
Trevor reincarnate

I can see Robin capturing the dark better than Alexander... actually. lol
InspectorDani

If I head out to see that Robert Hunt should definatly be Javert! And Adam Jacobs as Marius! *remember when I met him but didnt get an autograph. How stupid!*

But Hugh Parano as Marius?? Never heard of him playing Marius but I'm loving the sound of it!
The Very Angry Woman

InspectorDani wrote:

Can't you guys think of anything more original? I have nothing against either of them, or anyone else mentioned in this thread, but this is a chance for something a little more out-of-the-box.
lesmisloony

Quote:

Not since I was very, very small. But I went and watched a clip on youtube just now, and I suppose that's passable for Thenardier. I mean, he definitely has some sort of upper register, so I guess he could pull of Dog Eat Dog.

But really, I'd rather him not play the role. I mean, I know he can do a relatively serious performance, but I'm still afraid he'd turn Thenardier into some kind of awful hammy clown and ignore his darker side. And, considering what I've seen of his comedic movies, he'd probably manage to work some of his own improv into it somewhere.

My dream cast would be people whose names I hear on these forums but have never seen live.

Like... Marissa McGowen. Smile

Meh, I dont get out much and have only seen LM professionally once (soon to be two times) But I thought Robert did an awesome job.

I'm not the one to know all the different actors who play or who have played certain characters.
The Very Angry Woman

I think Robert is fantastic and is one of my favorite Javerts. I just think this is a wonderful opportunity to get people who can be great in whatever role maybe just for this run but may not be able to sustain an 8-show-a-week schedule either due to stamina, already existing professional schedules, or whatnot.
Orestes Fasting

InspectorDani wrote:

He did, in the early 90s. He's probably too old for it now. As Valjean, on the other hand...
The Very Angry Woman

I heard a rumor he may be Valjean in an upcoming regional production, but I'm not sure how true that is.
Orestes Fasting

I'm not sure how much I'm supposed to say on that subject...
EponinesRain

Oooh, I'm going to try my very best to be there. Like some of us here, I'm just a short drive away from the Hollywood Bowl. My dad's company usually gets special tickets for some events, too. Though, I may be in London over the summer. Either way, I will watch Les Mis! Twisted Evil

I really hope Celia Keenan-Bolger and Aaron Lazaar are there. I missed out on their performances when visiting NY. Is this important enough to bring Hayden Tee and Julia Moeller over here? Pray
EponineMNFF

OMGOMGOMG THAT IS LIKE TWENTY MINUTES AWAY FROM ME! I NEED TO GO!

I think I am going to be out of town though. *DIES* I wonder if my parents will consider pushing back the vacation to let me go?

I NEED TO GO

Marissa McGowan for both Eponine and Cosette!!!! Smile

And Hugh Panaro already played Marius before. Back in 1990.

I'm hoping Brian Stokes Mitchell is Javert. I wouldn't be surprised. He performed at the Hollywood Bowl in August the last two years in South Pacific, and I really think he'd be awesome. By that logic, Reba would be cast as Madame T then.
Quique

I saw Megan McGinnis as Eponine, who was just...meh. She had a pretty voice and was adorable as hell, but her acting didn't move me.

Wish I would've seen McGowan instead.

I agree. I saw both as Eponine and Megan McGinnis didn't deliver as emotional a performance as McGowan. Marissa McGowan blew me away the two times I watched the show.
lesmisloony

Quote:

Agreed threefold.

Though I don't want to be negative about Megan McGinnis at all (seeing how she *did* take us onstage afterward...) but I do recall that she moved nothing during OMO at all. Like, not even her arms.

Exactly. They mentioned a star cast while all the names you all have been listing don't mean anything to people that are not necessarily into theatre.
Colle

Whomever they cast, I would like to see a DVD released of this. I am not getting my hopes up though, since we didn't get a revival cast recording or any recording for the 20th anniversary.
mastachen

I just thought of something. By the logic of having recent theater actors performing at the Hollywood Bowl, not only could we bring in Brian Stokes Mitchell and Reba McEntire, but also Aaron Lazar too. This thing might just work out!
kozafluitmusique

Mind if I ask what's happening, because for some reason I can't get to the Broadwayworld site Trevor posted.
DontDoSadnessxx

yeah broadwayworld isn't loading for me in general

WHATS GOING ONNNNN?? =[

Well, you can get to it on other theatre news sites, too.

kozafluitmusique

I heard about it from Playbill radio last night (I subscribe to their podcasts).

omg...i wish i could see this Sad
dcrowley

I WANT TO GOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! *cries* Why does it have to be so far away...
lesmisloony

Haha, I called my mom about it, and at first she was like, "Umm NO."
And then, I was talking to her on the phone about a completely different topic a few days later, and she goes, "Hey, I might want to come with you to California."

Huh?

(I think my mom has a Jekyll-Hyde issue...)
mastachen

Oh. So we'll get to meet your mom too? Laughing
Trevor reincarnate

TOO MANY MdN MOMS IN ONE PLACE! AHHHH!
lesmisloony

Laughing
Only if my Mizzie friend decides not to go along. But if my mom goes, I have NO idea how I'd convince her to let me meet up with MdN people. She's... one of those people. The Everyone-On-The-Internet-Is-A-Rapist-In-Disguise people. But honestly... a lot of parents are, aren't they?
mastachen

Lie?
lesmisloony

Laughing

Well, it looks like my friend is still in. And... I talk about MdN all the time to her, so she thinks it'd be fun to encounter some of you guys out there.

We already met EponineMNFF in NYC, of course. That was goood times.

Mr. Green

I might run into you again at the Hollywood bowl. Unelss if I'm out of town. Sad

Can't we all just pick one day to go?

How about the Saturday performance?
lesmisloony

That would make planning the trip easier... let's go with that.

I feel like buying the subscription just for good seats to the concert.
lesmisloony

Can people in the area suggest a good, CHEAP hotel? Perhaps one with a website somewhere? I've never been out west...
The Very Angry Woman

Try Yelp.
mastachen

I asked my friend in NY once for help in finding a hotel: her response to me was "how should I know, I don't stay in hotels here."

lol

Uh, Holiday Inn Express? The smart choice! I know there's one in Santa Monica, but I'm willing to bet there's a couple in Hollywood.
Lara

Oh noooo! I'm going to be in Edinburgh for the High School Theatre Festival thing at that time!

They'll release a DVD, right? Like the TAC?
mastachen

I don't recall any of the Hollywood Bowl's shows being recorded, to be honest.

AH BUT EDINBURGH IS SO AWESOME! Don't worry, it's worth it. I performed in the Fringe Festival last year and I don't regret it at all, even though I missed something I really wanted to go to. /random

Very Happy
Lara

Hmm, yes. I haven't been fundraising insanely for nothing...

I wish they would film it though. -sigh-
Moci

According to Broadway.com, Lea Michele is playing Eponine at the Hollywood Bowl. Can't say I'm a fan of her 'On My Own', but I suppose it'll be nice for those of you who are going to see what she'd have done with the role had she appeared as Eponine in the revival, as she was originally cast.
Quique

I've never heard her sing OMO. Know where I can listen to her rendition?

My sister saw her in Spring Awakening and said her voice was kind of weak. I miss the real strong belters in the role, like Angela Pupello, Natalie Mendoza, and Sutton. I guess gotta wait and see.
Trevor reincarnate

So far not good. lol
mastachen

Good thing it's just a concert because acting is NOT her forte.

Neither is being nice, but that's a different story.
The Very Angry Woman

Guess what?

http://www.playbill.com/news/article/115323.html
mastachen

If they cast Reba, then the Hollywood Bowl would have it's entire cast back from last year's South Pacific.

But I gotta say, with the exception of Lea Michele, this is a decent cast so far. I like Jan from The Office, but I've never heard her sing before.. I called Brian Stokes Mitchell and Aaron Lazar!! Smile

I wonder who's gonna be Marius and Cosette.

Looks like a couple of good cast members. Brian Stokes Mitchel should be great as Javert, and I like the idea of Aaron Lazar too. Not sure about the rest (including Rosie).
Quique

Yay! Aaron Lazar!!! I didn't get to see him in the revival. Now's my chance!

I'm really excited about Brian Stokes Mitchell. And I've always thought Rosie would make a great Mme. T, though I hope she gets rid of that NY accent for the role, lol.

I saw Mark twice as Valjean on Broadway in 2000 and thought he was great. So no complaints there.
The Very Angry Woman

I'm kind of surprised Kevin Earley didn't work his way in. Isn't it a clause in every Equity production in LA that Kevin Earley has to be in every show somehow?
Quique

I wasn't aware he's appeared in many L.A. productions. I only recall seeing him as Enjolras and in Martin Guerre. I think.
Quique

I wonder who's going to play Thenardier. Hmmm.
mastachen

I hope it's Jason Alexander.
The Very Angry Woman

I'll be happy as long as it's not Gary Beach.
Quique

lol. Or Nick Wyman.
Trevor reincarnate

I squirt my pants a little when I saw Brian Stokes Mitchell. I've ALWAYS wanted to see him perform live.

Duh. Very Happy

Not thrilled with the cast so far ... but then, I'm not familiar with many of the performers. Lea Michele is ... how do I put it ... second-rate, let's say, as Eponine. I really, really hope she doesn't give us ingenuegirlnextdoor!Eponine. Which is my worry.

Personally, Marius/Cosette could swing this cast either way ... let's hope they're great.

I second Jason Alexander as Thenardier.
Mistress

It's funny, everyone talking about Jason Alexander playing Thenardier and, cpoincidently, he had Master of the House stuck in his head on an episode of Seinfeld...And I'm curious to see O'Donnell. The Only Madame T I've seen is Jenny Galloway from the TAC, she was absolutely hilarious, but I can't really judge otherwise. I'm also very interested about Stokes-Mitchell playing Javert...has there been a black Javert before? I know Stokes-Mitchell was also a rare black Sweeney Todd, and he seemed to be well liked...dunno, what do you guys think?
