Better than Gemignani's "Ho Ho Ho!" He sounds like Santa.

Aw, mastachen, I'm starting to get the idea that you aren't a big AG fan...

Hehe, I went and listened to that, too. Yeah, the hohoho is extremely bad... but the cackle is so much more startling and... loud. He sounds like... Gaston. Like, "Hynyah huh huh huh!" and then kinda goes, "whooo," at the end...

(Also, listening to the revival after hearing the original made me flinch like I was having a seizure at the HORRID Young Cosette and, of course, crappy orchestrations... I HAVE NEVER REALISED JUST HOW BAD THE ORCHESTRATIONS WERE UNTIL THIS DAY.)
curlyhairedsoprano91

Which horrid Little Cosette was this?

There was one I showed my brother on YouTube ... he hates it sooo much when Little Cosettes belt ... and she was singing for like 5 seconds before he said, "Shut her up. Please. Before I hurt something. Or myself."

It was a shame, 'cause she was hitting all her notes, but she was an AmericanIdolWannabe!Cosette instead of ... a Cosette!Cosette.
lesmisloony

I actually don't know which Young Cosette... it was March 3rd, 2007...
Fantine

One year ago.

*sigh*
curlyhairedsoprano91

I fangirl "Javert's Intervention" on the CSR.

QUAST.
Mistress

Hehehe...we should totally start an official MdN Philip Quast Fangirl Club Mr. Green Laughing

You can fangirl his Intervention, but I get his Suicide... Mr. Green
curlyhairedsoprano91

'Kay, you can have his "Suicide," but I get the "reprieved" as sung on the TAC.

And I'm all for this fangirl club.
Mistress

Does this mean I can have his low F in Confrontation? *puppy eyes*

Yay for the Quast fangirl club! Where shall we begin?

I didn't think the revival had a decent Valjean til Drew Sarich stepped in. It went uphill from there.

Both times I saw it, I thought Marissa McGowan outshone the 'stars' of the show: Lea and John/Judy.

Mm ... I guess. But I get the "M'sieur le Mayor" in all its sexy sarcasm.

We should make a new thread devoted entirely to Quast. And maybe another one devoted to JOJ.

*gleeful spam*
Mistress

Sweet...shall I begin?

(I'll do Quast, and you can do JOJ if you want)

I meant start the thread...but you can do JOJ too, if you wish...just let me have his vocal chords. Laughing
lesmisloony

Hafta add, as much lovehate as I have for Terry Mann (and, when it comes to LM, it's mostly hate) I actually really like his Intervention the way I saw it in 2003.

"Ah-hhhh no-oooooo th-eeeeeer brawlinthesquare" etc. It was a neat way to start it off, I thought, and the first time I'd heard it done that way.
mastachen

My DVD of Les Mis with Marissa McGowan as Eponine just arrived! Drool

I don't know if she is the same one, but I've just been watching february 7th 2007 and I feel like murdering that young Cosette. Brrrr... just when you feel relieved because Daphne Rubin-Vega is FINALLY dead, you start wanting for someone else to follow her into grave Evil or Very Mad
Orestes Fasting

March 3, 2007 was a Saturday, so it could've been either Kylie Liya Goldstein or Carly Rose Sonenclair depending on whether it was evening or matinee.

When I saw DRV perform, the little girl next to me hated her just as much as I did. When she returned for the finale, I actually heard her whisper, "Help me." Quite amusing from a seven year old.
lesmisloony

Hahahaha I want that kid!
Eppie-Sue

I feel like all my life I've been looking for this thread. And I already love it.

Mr. Green I fangirl in every possible way...
Enjolras
The Brick
TAC
David Thaxton
Montparnasse
Combeferre & Courfeyrac
Michael Maguire on the OBC
A la volont du peuple (OFC)
Orestes Fasting and lesmisloony
+ only recently: The Vest

(and The Legs during The Jump) Wink

I realised I fangirl the drunk in Master of the House, just the funniest character ever!
Proud Dork

Okay, so, I have a small confession to make. Call me weird, call me insane, call me pathetic...but I love Grantaire. Way too much. I actually squeal when I read his however-long drunken rants in the Brick. d'oh!

Eh? Wink
Eppie-Sue

I fangirl Bagheera in the Jungle Book. Bagheera and Balou = Enjolras and Grantaire. Admit it, you can see it, too.

Quote:
Everybody knew Bagheera, and nobody cared to cross his path; for he was as cunning as Tabaqui, as bold as the wild buffalo, and as reckless as the wounded elephant. But he had a voice as soft as wild honey dripping from a tree, and a skin softer than down.
Ulkis

Hmm, I realize I never wrote what I fangirl:

-Jean Valjean. Just as a character who I don't think we don't see much nowadays and didn't see much when Les Mis was written. A character who is good, without coming off as a hypocrite or by our modern standards a jerk, but is still just a man who has to struggle with his worst impulses.

-"Look Down". I love that song. I know, it repeats throughout the whole musical, but "Look Down" is my favorite part.

-Whatever horn instrument plays right before Marius sings, "it's you who must forgive a thoughtless fool, it's you who must forgive a thankless man".

-OLC. Gawd, everyone's voices were incredible. And a lot of acting nice acting that I didn't pick up when I first heard it when I was 10. Except maybe LuPone. I have nothing against her acting, but I think her voice (which I think is great) is weird in the part.

-Frances Ruffelle. We have her to blame for pop voice Eponine, but still, I think she was great.

I fangirl a lot more related to Les Mis, and the musical in general, but I was trying to pick out specific moments in the musical.
lovesinging

Hi. I'm new to the whole fangirling Les Mis thing. So bear with me.

Just wanted to say thanks for introducing me to JOJ. Shocked Now, anyone want to direct me to where I can get a cast recording with him or anything of that nature?

Unfortunately, I can't because I'm only familiar with the Disney movie, not Kipling's original. I can't imagine Enjolras and Grantaire having the voices of Sebastian Cabot and Phil Harris. Smile
Eppie-Sue

ah, I admit it might help if you only know the German voices. I listened to the original ones and, um, nope, I can't imagine them now either. But I was mainly thinking of the Disney adaption - because Kipling's Balou is different from Disney's and so is the relationship between Bagheera and Balou.

I fangirl the "SACK THE GIRL TODAAAA-AAAAAY!".

I just listened to the German voices on Youtube and I get it now. Bagheera's German voice does seem a little more youthful than the original: I just couldn't imagine Enjolras with the voice of Mr. French on "Family Affair."

Back on topic, I fangirl Adam Jacobs, Marissa McGowan, and all the cities and theatres where the show has played, like Quique used to.
Orestes Fasting

Totally fangirling the Qubec production right now. Saw it on Sunday and... hell yes. Maybe this time around I'll be able to compress my squee into a review.
marlalp

I fangirl..
Cosette and Javert from the 1989 OFC.
Mon Histoire from the Paris Rival Recording.
J. Mark McVey as Valjean.
The little puff on Javert's Toulon hat .
Bishop Myriel in the book.
David Thaxton as Enjolras.

Hmm.. I meant the original French concept album from 1989. At least I think it's from 1989, that's what it says on Amazon.
KatyRoseLand

I fangirl...
- David Thaxton as Enjolras.
- Mark Dugdale as Courfeyrac.
- George Miller as Bamatabois.
- Mark Hedges as Everyone.
- Megan McGinnis and Nancy Sullivan as Eponine.
- "My race is not yet ruuun"
- The letter Marius gives to Eponine to give to Cosette.
- Katie Hall as Cosette.
- "Take an eeeeye for an eeeeye" (that whole section of that song, in fact).
- Enjolras/Grantaire (as played by Richard Woodford or Keith Anthony Higham, it feels wrong to fangirl E/R when Grantaire is being played by someone who looks like DT's dad...).
- Javert, just in general.
- One Day More. It's a really amazing song.
- Valjean, just in general.
- Simon Shorten as Valjean. He's not my favourite, but he's still incredible. I'm so glad he actually gets scheduled dates now.
- The Bishop, just in general.
- Allyson Brown as Fantine.

I fangirl the whole musical though. There's really nothing I do not fangirl in it.
Madeleine

That made me laugh so much. Laughing

I fangirl:

Courfeyrac
Enjolras
Mark Dugdale
David Thaxton (including The Legs, Jump, Hair etc.)
John Jo Flynn
Victor Hugo
The 'Orestes Fasting and Pylades Drunk' part of the Brick (well the rest of the Brick too, but that goes without saying)

Many more I'm sure.

Recently, I seem to be developing a Combeferre obsession too. Embarassed
MlleTholomys

As it's fairly obvious, I fangirl Combeferre. Then, Enjolras, Joly, and Courfeyrac. Uhh, the OLC, David Burt, David Thaxton, and David Bardsley? (Which is really creepy that I fangirl three guys who have the same name)

Oh, and the 2008!Dutch cast. Lovely Ladies and ODM = <333.

Yeahh, you really shouldn't trust Amazon, because they're generally terribly off on these things. (I remember my OBC had the right date, but the CSR and OLC's dates were 1989. Trying to tell me something, Amazon?)
Eppie-Sue

Okay, I fangirl Michael Shawn Lewis as Enjolras. Because he was my first and will always have a special place in my heart, seeing as he made my nine year old self fall hopelessly in love with the character. I don't really remember that much, though xD (therefore, theoretically, David Thaxton is my first real Enjolras. which is even better Wink ) but:
He's tall and good-looking and blond and has a great voice. The acting choices aren't spot-on Enjolraic *ahem* - but I died when I found actual video evidence and cried a bit and squeeeeed.
Duisburg leaving cast (basically only student scenes with a bit of hilariouslyadorable!Marius and Cosette and Eponine
ONE
TWO

and yeah, I know the production is flawed but OMG I love it.
lovesinging

I LOVE it! Thanks so much Smile The Marius is great as well. The fact that it's in German also makes it so much more awesome, but that just might be my Elisabeth fangirl side coming out again...

Okay xD I couldn't find a better thread about this, although I'm sure there was a discussion about good LM School Editions. But. I really, really like this Suicide. Maybe I'm just in an impeccably good mood today, but oooh my!

@Quique - oh, is there any way you will be able to come and see it at the Queen's ... soon?

I'll send you a... postcard... from the London production after I go. Wink

I've gotten my fix of the original orchestrations from the regional productions (esp. Pittsburgh and Lausanne, which had huge orchestras), but I'm dying to see the original sets again. Seriously, the thing that sold me on the Danish production was omg they have a real barricade.

Which isn't to say that the show doesn't work without huge flashy sets, but I do miss the impressive barricade.

I am a HUGE Jean Valjean fangirl! I have fallen absolutely in love with his character and I especially love Colm Wilkinson's portrayal of him. And I totally fangirl Colm Wilkinson and Philip Quast.

I also really ship Valjean/Javert. A match made in heaven. Wink

And I am obsessed with the TAC and Original London casts.

Yay! Another JVJ fangirl! I was beginning to think there weren't any others out there. Although I can't say I'm much of a Colm fan, he's alright, but I prefer J. Mark McVey, John Owen Jones, and Robert Marien as far as musical!Valjeans.

I love how many parts of the show were clearly orchestrated to compliment the flow of the original's scene changes, the dramatic barricade music being a perfect example. Most people would say it's a bit excessive, and maybe it is, but I for one think it's fabulous. The barricade is an essential, symbolic part of the story and very important, life-altering events take place there. So the fact they make a huge deal out of it is only fitting. The set certainly does not make the show for me, but it greatly compliments and enhances the piece and not in a glitzy, shallow manner.

How they take what is supposed to be a static, pile of junk and almost give it a personality is ingenious. Even when it's not moving, it's towering, majestic, intimidating, much like the set surrounding it. John Napier wanted to create an abstract setting in which everywhere you turn, you can't escape your surroundings. He wanted something continuous and chaotic all the way around. And I have always gotten a sense of this world these characters live in looming there around them, providing a false sense of hope when its haphazardly scattered windows light up, and being completely cold, menacing as events take place and decades pass within its crumbling, almost prison-like walls with those huge wooden beams bearing all the weight, barley supporting that crumbling society.

It's especially poignant when Enjolras stands there atop that wooden heap and sadly declares that "the people have not stirred. We are abandoned by those who still live in fear" and surrounding him...are a bunch of shuttered windows. What a beautiful, bittersweet 'picture.' And there are many like that in the show. Sigh...the original production is just perfect.

Pack me in your suitcase!!! I want to gooooooooooooooooooooooo. lol.

OKay-zies, here's my shameless fangirl list:

-Enjolras/Grantaire
-"And I'm JAAAAAAAVERT!" and just Javert in general
-Jolllly
-The Brick, if fangirling a book is possible
-John Cudia as Valjean
-Eponine's hat
-Cosette's bonnet/hat thing
-Gavroche's hat
-Javert's hat
-Hats in general
-Fanfiction
-Montparnasse
-Bread

I fangirl the Le Cabuc scene because it's badass. Mr. Green And I fangirl it in every possible way.

As in the way I fangirl Combeferre or Montparnasse, as a hormonal teenage girl. I just really like Cosette and Eponine, but not in a Lesbian sorta way.
Nor do I fangirl hats or bread in that sort of way...that would just really creepy..

So yeah I have different levels of fangirl-ing. Like for the guys on my list its the *SQUEE! U R CUTE! I LUV U !11!!!1!* fangiriling, so the objects, lines etc. is the "I'm an idiot so simple things amuse my simple mind" and for the girls its the admiration of their characters.

Yeah, I see now that that was confusing...sorry Embarassed
Eponines_Hat

There are a few random things I have been fangirling lately, so I thought I would resurrect this thread......

1) I really really really fangirl Natalie Day's Fantine. I have seen her 3 times now and every time she was just so Shocked amazing. I love her touching, subtle, realistic, Brick-like depiction. It's not that I don't like Rebecca's Fantine.... I just LOVE Natalie in the role.

2) The way that Earl used to deliver some of his lines, so that Javert actually seemed to have some depth of character. EG "A memory stirs..." (oh! I am actually thinking here....) and "it is either Valjean..... or Javert!"

3) Jeff Nicholson cracks me up regularly. Especially him and Simon Shorten in MOTH. It's so not about the Thenardiers ... just them and The Drunk.

4) Jonathan Williams as JVJ. He should have the role permanently. PERIOD. If I ever were to meet Cammack we would have words about this. Seriously.

5) All the E/R! And, yes, Martin's R! has worn me down - I rather like him now

MajorTordoArthur

I happily fanboy:

-Cosette~<3
-The brick
-The Shjo Cosette anime
-The musical
-The OFC
-The barbican lyrics(Though a lot of people seem to disagree with me here)
-Enjolras, in that way that I have great admiration for him
-The Final Battle, Dog eats Dog and Javert's suicide, my favorite songs
-The blacklick valley high production, because it made me laugh so much, though their Javert's suicide made me suicidal
-The OLC cast
-The current London cast minus Simon Bowman

and there's probably more...
