One Day More! - record it together

I formed this idea in my mind yesterday evening.

I want to test out my mixing program and try to get the whole hard-to-mix number of One Day More mixed with singers from this forum!

I figured that it would be a nice idea... Anyone wants to?

What I need is singers for:
Valjean
Javert
Eponine
Marius
Cosette
Thenardier
Mme Thenardier
Enjolras
and a chorus.

And a nice backing track to try it. I will of course upload the result for everyone to download when ready Smile

Is anyone interested? If so we should hold auditions. This will be a serious project though, I will not simply cast some people, you have to be devoted to your job. No "Oh my mic ain't working, can I submit it two weeks after the final date?"
None of that.

So?
mrp123

Cool idea. I'll try out, but do you need a mike to do this? I'm assuming so, but if that's the case, then I can't do it. Sad

I'd be an okay-ish Eponine (I'm sure you can find better) and a good Mme. Thnardier
AngMisto8182

I'd be willing to sing Cosette's part, maybe.... I'll try at least, I dunno if I'm good enough...! I do have a mic, but how do you post sound clips in .wav format? Anyone know? I don't know how, and I'm not very smart when it comes to computers sometimes, sooooo yeah....

If someone knows any way to do that, then hey, I'll try!

But if that's not doable, then never mind.
dramaqueen220222

I could do Cosette's part, and Madame Thernardier.
RainyCrystal

I think I can give Eponine a good shot! Smile

~Sissi
IvanP

I'll try Thenardier...
Quique

"One Day More"

I can provide the backing track. I'm already doing one of "One Day More" for a member on here anyway, so it's no problem. I might be up for Marius, but I need to get over my jitters first. Oh well...... Confused
HeroTheBishop

If i get a descent mic I could sing Javert. If.
Fantine

Quique, you are my hero. (as always).

Anyway, about recording stuff:

When you do not have Microphones:
You can also try headphones. Plug them into the Microphone entrance of your computer and try singing through one of the ears. I don't think this will be good quality though...

Recording programs:
There is a standard recording programme in windows, you can find it in 'entertainment' >> 'voicerecorder' (something like that).

What I'm looking for in the final recording (don't enter if you can't live up to this):
- Decent quality clips. If your recording lacks this (so if it has a buzz or anything like that), the whole One Day More track will suffer from this.
- Everyone will need to use the same backingtrack to sing along to, however your own recording has to be A-Capella. (Did I spell that right? Anyway...)
- It is possible that if you don't get the role you wished for, you will be placed in the chorus or maybe get a different role.

I have no idea how the chorus should work because there are two parties... I guess I will figure that out with some help from you guys after we all get cast.

I will not participate. (At least I won't do any of the solo roles, but perhaps I will sing chorus). It's just as fair.
lesmisroxmysox

I will sing chorus. I can do either soprano or alto, whichever works better!
Aimee

I'm up for it. I'd like to try out for Cosette, Eponine and even Madam T as over the years I have done all 3 bits in concerts of the master-classes I've done. Smile

Fun idea Fantine!!
I'll let you have them over MSN when I've done them. Smile

So whatever part we want to do, we audition for it by sending you a clip? And I'm definitely in, whatever part!
GlamorousGriz

Cool idea! I think I could sing Cosette better than Eponine, but whatever works works. Or chorus... soprano.

Heeheehee!

About Auditioning...

I think I can decide who's fit for which role by listening to the actual pieces that each role sings in ODM. (since you will only have to be able to sing that correctly, not belt out the whole of OMO or anything).

So then sending clips would be perfect.

I don't really like deciding on the roles on my own... Are there two or three people who want to assist?

Can I asisst?

Also, as far as hissing sounds or light buzzing noise, that's pretty much standard on most every P.C. mic system, so it would be better if we allow that, as long as it's not too loud. I say this because I have a very good program that removes hiss and buzzing noice excellently and if anyone's should have this, I can take care of it.

You're now a member of the jury!

Well yeah, a little buzz or hiss is alright, I actually meant the low-quality recordings we sometimes get here. With soft sound, buzzing and a disturbance whenever the voice goes to high.

Quique, how is the progress for ODM going?
javertsw

Are there any clips left from that Virtual Les Mis of long ago? I can't remember whether we did any of One Day More...

As soon as Quique finishes the backing track for One Day More (hint Wink) I can give you the deadline for the audition. (you could start recording already if you wish). It will be a short audition time though... One week, two at most.

AngMisto8182

Erm... any nice patient person feel like explaining to me just exactly how we send Fantine clips...? Please? I'm still not sure if I'm going to try for Cosette or not, I recorded her part in "One Day More" and I sound so YOUNG, but hey, it's worth a shot. I guess. But just don't laugh at me, guys! Remember, I'm 14! I'm trying! haha
Aimee

I am going to send mine to Fantine on MSN when I have done them but you can load them to a wed site [do you have a space, if not yahoo/yeocities has limited free space] and load them there and give Fantine the link.
AngMisto8182

Ooh okay, thanks! I'll give it a try.

can i be on the jury?

if not, i'll audition. If I do audition and i'm not sure what part, can I just record them both?
RyanJ

I'll give you guys moral support, and tell you to "believe in yourself" as much as you want. Smile
Fantine

Just record whatever part you want!

You can also email me your clip, but that'll come later.

First, we need Quique to finish the backing.

Backing track.....

Oh - ho-ho-ho-ho-waaaait a sec! Twisted Evil

I suggest you don't wait around for me to finish the backing it won't be ready until ay least 2 weeks from now. You know how much effort it takes to make these...A LOT. But I guarantee the results will justify the time spent in making it.

I can't finish it faster even if I wanted to, ask anyone who makes these professionally and they'll tell you it's a very involved process. Think about it, I have to come-up with a FULL orchestra, which means hunt for the right samples for each instrument. The Les Misrables orchestra is huge and the orchestrations very complex. If I had some musical training and was able to read sheet music and perform other advanced tasks, it would be much faster. If I had the full score, I could have it finished by tomorrow, but I don't. All I have is my two lovely spock ears, heeheehee.

Considering all I use is my ears and the fact that I can sing on key and recognise pitch well, this backing will sound amazing, LOL!

I suggest we go ahead with the audition process and leave anything to do with the backing track until it's done. Trust me, this isn't an issue of me doing things slowly, this is standard for a complex orchestration of this nature.

I'm working on it daily, each day I get a small part of ONE instrument sequenced. If I went faster, it would sound no better than cheap midi.....ugh.

The funnest part so far is the French Horn, I love that instrument and the way it sounds. it's a pleasure working with it.

Cool

I thought though, that we could sing anything we want from the show and it must be in acapella (sp?) for the auditions?

It wasn't because of the auditions that I wanted to get the backing track first. I just hate to start anything without having the final touch in hand. (I don't want our One Day More to end up like the virtual cast).

For the audition you can sing your line from ODM in either ACapella or with a backing track, whatever you prefer.

Woa, I didn't see this thread till today. I'm going to try to hook my mic up to the comp and get a program to record an audition. I'll most likely try for enjolras or javert, or both (depends how my voice is tomorrow, I sometimes sound, kinda gravelly on those high notes).

Just so I'm clear, I'm recording me singing the part of One Day More for the character? Can i use a crappy background thing just to keep me in the right key with the right rythm or is this just a cappella?

~The Lone Wanderer

*edit* Is anyone else even trying for enjolras? If not then I'll be sure to do a clip for him.

Hello. Uhm, I'd like to sing in this song, but I'll have to wait to get a microphone first. I have to way til payday til I can afford one (first job, first payday Wink )
And then I hope, if I'm not too late, then I can send my clips in.

Compared to everyone on here, who has had singing lessons and has actually performed on stage, I haven't. I'm just a techie, but I'd still like to try out.
My voice used to be terrible, but I keep bursting into song around the house, and I swear, I'm noticing a bit of improvement.

Also - if I really am terrible in the people who are deciding's opinion, then I don't mind being in the chorus.

Or I could do lights Wink

Hehe.

I think I'll try for Eponine and Cosette Smile

EDIT - Oh yeah, I know this post may seem a little forward, as I haven't been here as long as all the other people sending in auditions, but I just want to join in somehow Smile
actor

Could i be in the chorus if this is still going on?

Also, when i click on 'accessories', 'entertainment', then 'sound recorder', it only allows me to record for one minute.
Moci

actor wrote:

Record a minute of silence then go to 'Effects' and select 'Decrease speed' which should double it to 2 minutes, do it again for 4 etc... until you have the amount that you need.
When you have finished recording, stop your recording, go to 'Edit' and select 'Delete After Current Position' to remove the excess.
Aimee

Or my way is to record a minute then do another minute then another- one after the other and so on. Then when you want to record start the curser at the start again. Smile
actor

Ok, thanks.

I actually think i might be able to take on a lead male role instead of chorus.

Fantine, are we sending you the recording that you're gonna use or just an audition type thing?

Also, on your editing programme, can you edit the clips so that they are all together and on time?
